I stare at the address in front of me sent from an unknown number 10 minutes ago. Greyson surprisingly lives really near by.
I just can't believe I actually have to do a project with the dipshit. Like I have to sit in his presence for more than an hour.
I walk up to the beautiful two story house and knock on the door. Seconds later he opens the door wearing a black t-shirt, with grey sweatpants and black socks. A single silver chain with a cross pendant on.
I don't say anything and he doesn't either. We just stand there awkwardly waiting for the other to say something.
"Come in," he says finally. He steps aside so that I can enter closing the door behind us. I take note of the quiet, modernly decorated living room that surrounds us.
Only it isn't a peaceful silence, it's a lonely one.
I turn back to him to see his piercing green eyes watching me intently. I could get lost in them if I had no restraint. They reminded me of a forest. A deep dark lonely forest. I clear my throat and snap us both back to reality.
"Let's get this over with." I try to hide the venom in my voice, but I can't.
At least I tried.
"This way." He leads me out of the living room towards the kitchen, where there's a marble countertop and barstools.
I rest my bag down, taking out my laptop and a few textbooks as he walks around the countertop ambling deeper into a large lavish kitchen. At first glance you would think that there's no more to it than what's right in front of you, but there's a whole gourmet kitchen back there.
"Want anything to drink?"
"Just a glass of water, thank you."
He returns a moment later, placing a glass of water down on the countertop before sipping his orange juice and taking a seat beside me.
He smells so good.
"What' cha got?" I pull up all of the research I've done so far explaining it all the best way I can. I explain that I think that a presentation is the best way to formulate everything based on the information I've provided.
He listens attentively without speaking, waiting for me to finish so he can give his input. He slowly nods every now and then letting me know he's actually digesting what is being said. I'd be lying if I said that the occasional eye contact wasn't making me nervous, but I wouldn't let it show through. I can't look weak.
"I think we should provide two separate diagrams of the rearrangement of the existing genes and the generation of the new ones by duplication and mutation. It'll help us to differentiate between the gene code and we can subtly compare the process to mitosis. I think it'll be easier to follow that way." He says finally with a shrug.
I stare at him. Not because I'm in shock or anything, I know he's smart. I stare because his idea is actually better than mine, and I spent all day articulating it.
"Yeah." I say, my voice cracking. I clear my throat. "Yeah I think that'd simplify it without leaving out the important information. That's a pretty good idea," I say, swallowing my compliment.
Ew.
"Right so we should get started on the diagrams then?" A small smirk on his lips.
"Yeah."
I sigh, not a heavy one, just one to prepare myself to get into work mode.
It's going to be a really long night.
