I take a deep breath, waiting for my number to be called. I've been dancing for 2 and a half years now.
At first I used it to disguise for my unhealthy weight loss, but I fell in love with it, unlocking a true talent I didn't know I had. I just listen to the music and evoke whatever I feel into my movements, letting it take over me. Dancing brings me so much inner peace, which is exactly what I need after what had happened in the past few days.
We're doing a ballet version of 'Beauty and The Beast', an all time Disney classic. Sure the romance was a bit...questionable and honestly just sounded like an old case of Stockholm's syndrome, but there was beauty in the themes it held.
And let's be honest...the soundtrack? Absolutely amazing.
I was auditioning for the part of the rose, and I know what you're thinking:
'The rose? Why not Belle?'
'The rose is literally an inanimate object.'
Just hear me out. The rose is a plant and of course doesn't say anything the entire movie, but if you really paid attention to the film there was so much more to it. Being so silent yet so loud, it's purpose holding so much depth and importance. You're probably thinking that I'm looking into it too much but it'll all make sense soon enough.
I have to complete the routine in order of events of the film, with a small pause to indicate the change of scene. I wait for my cue before I slowly glissade to the center of the stage. My toes pointed, prepared for a simple on pirouette, that I execute with grace and poise before coming to a halt. I stay in á terre for a few seconds, pausing for dramatic effect, and just as music climaxes I tour jete ; indicating the beast's rejection of the rose.
I run through the rest of the routine with ease, allowing my body to feel the music and the emotion it brings with it.
***
I did absolutely amazing, I just know I did. I feel so refreshed and calm walking out of the studio, cheery like I already got the part. Casting results won't be released until the following week, but the way I feel right now after that performance, I'm 100% certain I will.
I head back to the parking lot, drinking water out of my hydro flask when Kevin calls out to me.
"Ali wait up." he says jogging up to me.
"Oh, hey Kev what's up?" I say giving him my undivided attention. He gestures his hand forward, indicating that we can walk and talk.
"I was just wondering if something happened between you and Greyson? He canceled plans with Jacob and I Monday saying he had to do 'some stupid ass biology project' with you and he's been in a shitty mood since."
I laugh at Kevin's horrible Greyson impersonation. "Yeah, sure we worked on a biology project, but that was all. What makes you think something happened between us?"
"Well I know you two don't have the best history so I thought it was probably related. He's been a complete dickwad all day, more that normal."
"Oh." Is all I can muster. Could what'd happened in Mr. King's room effect him like this?
"Yeah, just wondering if you guys had a fight or something."
I got under his skin huh?
Good.
"Surprisingly, no."
Kevin dramatically gasps before I even reply. "You don't think he's finally gotten his period do you?"
My eyes widen and I gasp, clutching my chest for dramatic effect, "Oh no! You don't think..." I trail off, turning to face Kevin who's looking back at me with same look. Our heads fall back from the intense laughter. By the time it subsided, we're nearing my car in the parking lot.
"We had a small disagreement about the project's layout, but nothing drastic." I lie with a shrug.
"Guess he just has his balls in a bunch." Kevin shrugs. "Well then, drive safe...and tell your parents I said hi."
"I will, you too!" I say hopping into my car and putting on my seatbelt. "And you should totally get him some pads for that, and some icecream."
"Will do." he says with a smile.
A/N:
This chapter's more of a filler. Just a little insight on Ali's love for dancing :)
