"Wait, YOU KNEW?"

"Of course I knew. It was pretty obvious actually," Mya shrugged.

It was Saturday, the day both Greyson and I decided to tell our friends about us. We opted on telling them pretty early on because we had a date later this evening and it would've been beyond suspicious at that point if we both went missing at the same time.

"What? Obvious? I was super duper careful and I even hid the hickeys. How did you know?"

"Pause. Hickeys?"

"Oopsie. Did you say hickeys? Cause I sure didn't. I'm sorry I tried to keep this from you so long. I love you. Please don't kill him...or me," I ramble.

My best friend laughs, like actually laughs at me. "Calm down I knew for a while now. I've had my suspicions the very first night you went over to his house for that project."

"O-Okay— you must have the sixth sense or something because I hated him back then."

"That's exactly how I knew," she points.

"You knew because... I hated the guy who bullied me my whole life?"

"You're really dense you know that?"

"Am not."

"He bullied you because he liked you Ali."

"You really think so?"

"Yup. However that doesn't excuse what he did and I personally believe that he doesn't deserve you or your time or your forgiveness and that he should rot in a hole for the rest of his life after being castrated and buried alive for what he said to you."

"Mya!"

"You didn't think I'd just accept him with open arms did you?" she tried to reason.

"Well, no." I murmured. "But a girl can dream."

"Look, the bullying I could look past. But I can never overlook what he said and what it did to my best friend. This is just one of the things we just don't agree on but that doesn't mean I won't support you. You're smiling brighter than I've seen in years and if he's the reason who am I to stop you? Just... promise me you'll be careful Als."

"I promise," I say pulling my best friend into an embrace whom reluctantly returns it. "Thank you for giving him a chance."

"You're welcome. And don't hesitate to call me because I will beat his ass in a heartbeat."

"Okay." I laugh.

Greyson

"And get this, they didn't even pretend to be the least bit surprised."

"Yeah neither did Mya. Either we have really good friends or we absolutely suck at hiding things," Allison laughed from the other end of the video call.

"Maybe both?" I laugh.

"Probably," she smiled. And I swear it's the most beautiful thing I'll ever see.

"You still haven't told me where we're going for our date tonight." she pouted.

"And I won't because it's a surprise. Just be ready at 7 okay?"

"I know, I know. Mya's helping me choose an outfit and I'm so excited."

"Excited to see me princess? I'm flattered," I teased.

"A little," she shrugged with a mischievous smile.

"How'd she take it—Mya. She's not plotting my death is she?" I ask as a joke, but deep down I'm terrified.

"I think you're a few years too late. I wouldn't be surprised if she weren't outside your door right"—

Allison's cut off by the sound of harsh knocking on my room door. She stares at me wide eyed and I mirror her expression.

"Don't worry it's probably Jay and Kev. They're also helping me 'date prep' whatever that means. Don't know why when Kevin's love life is in shambles and well... Jay is Jay," I shrug and she laughs. "I gatta go though but I'll see you soon beautiful."

"See you soon dickface."

Before I can even comment on the old nickname she hangs up and the violent pounding reminds me once again that I'm hanging up for a reason.

"Okay, okay Kevin you don't have to."—

—"Dad. You came out of your room."

One day I came home and my dad's car was suddenly in my driveway. I thought for a moment that he found help and he got better but he hasn't. He's still coming and going at weird hours of the day and he comes back higher than when he left.

I've barely even see him and he only comes out of his room to rest the plates I left outside of his door in front of mine when he's finished eating. So seeing him standing in front of me in the same clothes he had on two days ago and a beard he would've never dreamt of growing—shocked me to say the least.

It's like standing in front of a mirror that showed me how I'd look if I went down the wrong path. Same hair, same face, we're almost the same height too but his posture sucks making him seem a bit shorter.

Sure the color's drained out of his eyes and they look nothing like the ones I have anymore and his skin is insanely pale...but he's still my dad.

"What's wr"—

—The words are quite literally slapped out of my mouth when my his firm calloused hand makes direct contact with my the side of my face.

"You took it didn't you? You went in my room and took it while I was gone, DIDN'T YOU?"

I say nothing.

"ANSWER ME BOY," he says slapping me again, hard enough to make it bleed.

I stand in front of my door in sheer silence holding my bruised cheek giving him no reaction. Instead of feeling the things I should like shock and rage...

I'm getting deja vu.
