“Maybe the reason you can never go home again is that, once you're back, you can never leave…”

"I'm going back home." Qophelo spoke as soon as she was fully dressed. They wouldn't have been able to have a proper conversation with her body on display, just waiting for him to pounce on her. He knew once he had a taste of what it was like to be with her, he would never be able to go back.

Thandeka looked up at him. "Going back home?"

He cleared his throat, and fetched a suitcase which already had some belongings. "Yes. I was packing in the morning when you woke up."

"I don't... I don't understand. You're leaving me?"

"Thandeka," he sat down next to her. "This is something I need to do. My grandmother... I dreamt of her and she explained to me that I needed to go back home."

"Which home?"

"My home. My biological home. I know things are a mess. Amukelani and I, one of us supposed to take over from my father. Since we aren't there, it means that things have gone wrong. My family is full of greedy people, so I know that whoever is in charge, is not doing a good job at it."

She blinked, trying to process everything at once.  "You're a Royal?"

"... yes."

"Why haven't you told me this before? Do you know what this means?" She put her hands on his shoulders. "We're both Royals, which means that we can be together without it being too taboo!"

"Princess," he sighed. "I don't consider myself  Royal. My father was never a proper ruler. Our Kingdom was not doing well. Although I was young, I could see that we were not recognized as Royals because our Kingdom was the most poor. We are practically commoners. Now that we're gone, it's probably in shambles. But if ugogo believes that I can fix everything, then I'm going to try."

"Oh..."

"Yeah.. oh."

She stood up and walked to his suitcase, "then I'm going with you." She put his suitcase on the bed. "Keep packing. I'm going to start packing too."

"Woah, Princess-"

"I'm going with you. Phelo, you're leaving me and if I don't follow you, I don't know when you're going to come back. Plus, I can't let you face everything by yourself. I need you, just as much as you need me."

Qophelo smiled, "are you sure?"

"I've never been sure."

. . .

Thandeka was nervous as she frantically put her clothes in suitcases. She never packed everything when she moved to the Nkabindes so her clothes were going to be minimal. She'd have to get new clothes because she didn't want to set foot in that place again.

The door opened and it was her mother. "Thandeka," she approached her daughter, watching her pack her clothes. "Where are you going?"

"You and dad lied to me. You told me that if anything ever happened, I could always come back home. You told me I could always count on you guys to protect me."
