"The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek therefore, not to find out who you are, but seek to determine who you want to be."
Third Omniscient Point Of View
______
The morning came by quicker than Thandeka would've wanted. She now had to face the music– the music is her mother. After she got ready, she went downstairs with her heart in her stomach. Today was going to be a long day. She was dressed formally to meet the Nkabindes and address a way forward.Bettina met her on her way down. "Hey you. Are you okay?"
Thandeka nodded, absent-minded. "I'm okay, Betty. Are you? How are things with Manqoba?"
She grinned in response. She took ahold of Thandeka's arm and pulled down the stairs quicker before taking her to the corridor adjacent to the stairs. They were hidden from plain view. "I know it's soon but... I'm pregnant."
Thandeka gasped. "Really?" Betty nodded vigorously. "Oh my God, Betty that's amazing!"
"I know... it's surreal. Manqoba was ecstatic. He's been so loving and supporting and it's just great."
"I'm so happy for you." They hugged. "How far along are you?"
They walked back out, heading towards the kitchen. "Just over 8 weeks. It's still new. "
"Mhm. And are you ready to be a mother?"
Betty's grin never faltered. "I am. I am going to be the best mother to this baby. A mother my own mother failed to be." She touched her stomach. "I'm going to give them the best life. Which brings me to the next part of what I wanted to talk to you about."
"Yeah."
Betty took a deep breath. "I want to get another job. Not in the Kingdom. Same goes with Manqoba. We want to move to the city to start a new life together."
Thandeka faced her, stopping their walk. "Betty... are you not happy here?"
"It's not that. But I want to do something else. Something I like. Although I do not have enough experience, I want to go and make something of myself. I don't want to be a Kingdom servant all my life."
"Betty..."
"It had nothing to do with the Kingdom. I was treated great here. But I do not want to work here forever. I've always told you I wanted to do something in the beauty field and I believe that if I do some courses, I can gain enough skill to build up my image. It doesn't sound realistic but for now, this is what I have in mind."
Thandeka didn't give a response immediately. "Okay, if that's what you want then, I can't force you to stay. I won't promise that I will not miss you... or try to get you to stay."
"The decision has already been made, Missy." They chuckled. "I will visit. You must update me on every single thing that happens, okay? I want to miss nothing."
"Of course I will. That little one must also visit me. I want to miss nothing."
They hugged again. "Of course not. I'll make sure even when you're not there that I capture the moment."
