I leaned back after emptying my stomach for what felt like the hundredth time tonight. Calum leaned forward and wiped my mouth off then let me rest back against him as a strong contraction came over.

I've been having contractions for two hours now but they aren't close enough for us to go to the hospital yet and my water hasn't broken. I started them around midnight. At first, I thought they were the Braxton Hicks contractions since I'm only thirty-five weeks but as the time between them was more frequent, I knew they were real.

Calum hasn't left my side. He's sat behind me on the bathroom floor the entire time. As soon as I started contracting, I started puking. He's also been on the phone with our doctor, trying to find us a hospital with an open room. Most of the ones around us are all for Covid patients and don't have labor and delivery open.

I finally felt a little better and went to stand up,

"You okay?" Calum asked. I nodded and he helped me get back in bed,

"We need to head to the hospital soon. The contractions are close together" I sighed,

"Let me go pack the car and we'll go. The hospital that we were originally planning to go to knows we're coming" he told me, kissed my head, and headed out of our room. I leaned over and grabbed my phone and opened my messages to text my mom,

[ We're about to head to the
hospital. I've been having
contractions for a while ]

Mom: [ You're about five weeks
early. You're sure you're
not having Braxton Hicks ones? ]

[ No they're real. We've
been timing them and they're
getting closer together ]

Mom: [ You'll be fine honey.
You and Calum keep us updated.
I'll have my phone so don't
hesitate to call about anything ]

"Ready baby?" Calum walked back in the room. I nodded and went to get out of bed, but as I did, I felt this pop then suddenly liquid was running down my leg,

"Cal" I looked up, "My water broke"

We got to the hospital and they got us set up in a room. They told us we could take our masks off when it's just us but when doctors come in we need to put them back on.

Once we got settled, the nurse came in and got me hooked up to an IV, then went to check my dilation, which was quite uncomfortable. As she did that, I held Calum's hand as he sweetly looked at me,

"You are seven centimeters dilated. Are you wanting to do an epidural?" she asked,

"Yes," I said immediately. If I was already in this much pain and it was to get worse, I want that damn epidural,

"Alright. I will go grab another doctor and everything we need" she nodded and headed out of the room. Just as she left, another contraction hit, but this one was way worse than the last one, making me sit up and clench my jaw as I squeezed the bed rails. Calum started kissing my head and rubbing my back as I went through it.

"Okay?" Calum questioned once he saw I wasn't tensed up. I nodded and the nurse came back with a tray of things and another nurse. They got me into position and I grabbed Calum's hands. Both my mom and Joy have told me how bad this needle is, so I'm nervous,
