Brett

Sunday morning finally came. I woke up bright and early to the sight of the beautiful sunlight. I got out of bed to walk to the window. My room, a hotel suite, was seen not far from the football stadium where we would be playing our game today. I could easily see the outside of the stadium where it showed the Super Bowl logo and a picture of a player from each team on either side of it.

I glanced to see Gordon Henry's picture on the side and I smiled. Knowing that Scout had done a tremendous work in bringing our franchise quarterback to the team really made me happy to know he was a big reason why we were here. But then, I started to fret because Scout and I hadn't spoken much since I got engaged to Luke.

The thing was that I didn't want to be engaged to Luke. While he was asking me, I started thinking about Scout more and more. Ultimately, I received a confirmation that I was deeply attracted and in love with him. Sure, I might've thought that before, but when I saw Scout last night, I knew it was true. Scout was always one to listen to me and treat me right. When others threatened my position, he at times made sure to get them to respect me as the boss. Sure, he was a nuisance to an extent, but he always was loyal and dedicated to his craft as I in mine. However, when he left me in anger that night, I broke down and cried knowing I messed up. Even worse was that I was still engaged to Luke on Sunday.

I glance at the engagement ring Luke gave me on the bedside table. Sure, it was a lovely ring, but I didn't think I was worthy of it. Unfortunately, I couldn't call off the engagement because everyone was loving it and they wanted me to keep the ring on. So, even though my heart was set on Scout, I had to commit to this engagement.

I got dressed and was about to make my way towards the lobby when there was a knock at my door. I rush to open it and was greeted by a young hispanic woman wearing a Cowboys' jumpsuit. She had black hair and was wearing red lipstick while her white tank top showed a bit of cleavage underneath.

"Can I help you?" I asked.

"I'm sorry to interrupt Mrs. Mills," the woman said. "My name is Maria and I was wondering if I could talk to you for a bit. I think you want to hear me out on this."

I was a bit skeptical at first. Why would a woman with a Cowboys' jumpsuit want to talk to me unless Luke sent her? But, she showed a look of genuine and I decided to let her in.

"So, what's the deal?" I asked.

"Two things," Maria said. "First off, I just want to say I admire all that you achieved and how much I am inspired by you as a woman to be in a position of power. We do need women leaders like you to lead us. You're a hero to us all."

I was flattered. "Thanks."

"Second, I want to tell you that I think you're making a mistake being engaged to Luke."

Now, that was something I didn't expect her to say. "What makes you think so?"

Maria took a deep breath. "I'm a cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys. I'm sure you might've seen me in pictures. However, I've gained a lot of insight into what's going on with our franchise regarding the bounty scandal." I nod as she continued. "You didn't hear this from me. But, there are three executives with administrative roles on the team to help with football. Let's just say they are shady people. They have this system to pay players on our team to knock out and injure some key players. If the players do this, they get paid extra and have rewards. However, the executives get paid as well. At least, that's what they think."

"Why are you bringing this up now?"

"Because the executives were hired by Luke."

My mouth dropped at this revelation. "Why?"
