When Gordon signed his contract, I knew right then and there that he was to be a shoe-in to make the squad. Everyone from Brett to the coaching staff knew knew he wouldn't be on the practice squad for long and that he would somehow find himself on the active roster, even if it was as a third string guy.

The second it was announced that Gordon made the roster, it was time to celebrate. I took him out to a local sports bar where he would treated by yours truly to drinks. We arrived to the restaurant and were soon greeted by the locals there. It was a place I had gone to many times regardless of whether things were going good or bad. I also happened to know the owner, Bubba Free, an elderly white man in his 70's who got the name due to his heavy set weight and reputation as a free wheeling dealing person that was a hippie in the 1970's.

"Two orders of the best stuff," Bubba Free asked.

"Oh, you know it Bubs," I replied. "I got a winner tonight."

I took Gordon to my favorite spot at the bar. Near the wall on the left side. I always loved the wall and made sure no one would take it whenever I was there. Once we sat down and got our drinks did we finally get to sit back and enjoy the moment.

"How are you feeling?" I asked.

"A bit sore," Gordon replied. "Taking all these hits was something I never envisioned."

"That's life in the NFL for you. You get your hits, but you still make plays. You earned that spot."

"I'm just sad it isn't as a starter. That's what I always thought. Now that Todd Sweeney is on the team, I guess I have to learn from him."

I took a sip of the drink.

"Gordon, Todd is a good quarterback. He's got an arm and some mobility. But, he does lack something that I think you have."

"And what's that?"

"We just need to figure that out for you."

Just then, the TV on the screen showed two analysts talking about the upcoming NFL season. They predicted the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl, which got a lot of boos from the crowd in attendance. As for the team that would finish with the worst record, surprisingly, they didn't pick us, which I was glad to know because we didn't need to show how much bad we had been.

Then, came a topic that drew me some frustration.

Analyst #1: Another season is set to begin and while there are predictions of teams that will win the Super Bowl and coaches who are in the hot seat, there are some general managers that might find themselves in their last seasons with the respected franchises. But, of all these GM's that might find themselves in the hot seat, who do you think might fired from their team this season?

Analyst #2: The fact that there is a female general manager in the NFL is an achievement unto itself and it is a barrier. With that being said, the results speak for themselves and Brett Mills has not built a team that has a winner. Now, she made some big splashes with the draft picks, including Troy Paulson and Otis Miner in the first round. However, as sources inform me, this is a make or break year for her. If the team doesn't fulfill their expectations, we could be looking at a new general manager for the next season. This has nothing to do with her gender, but the results haven't shown up and I wouldn't be surprised if the team decided to axe her.

"Bullshit,"  one of the female bartenders said. I looked at her and saw brunette hair, about 5'7 with a chest size that would make Hooters proud. Plus, there was even a tattoo of what appeared to be an American flag with a soldier's helmet on her left arm. "She was faced with bad decisions from the previous management."
