26. Flashback 5: Amnesia

Let's go back to the day in the past.

Morning 5AM

Adnan tells Rushi that Advika isn't answering any of his calls nor is she responding to his texts.

"Leave her alone for some time she will come back", Rushi assures him though he was mad at her.

"Is something wrong between you two? I feel something is off.", Adnan carefully asks Rushi because he didn't want to handle Rushi's anger too know.

"Vishal isn't consious yet what do you think can be any more wrong right now", Rushi answers rudely

"I know something is wrong but if you don't want to tell it's fine", Adnan returns Rushi his rude attitude.

Rushi doesn't reply to Adnan and stays silent.

Vishal's parents were seated on the seats across them and could hear them whispering but they didn't evesdrop much.

After sometime the doctor and a nurse runs a check on Vishal
The doctor tells them that he is conscious but doesn't allow them to meet him just yet. He asks them to follow him to his cabin.

All of them do as asked. Adnan Rushi stand behind Vishal's parents who were now seated in the chairs across the doctor's table.

"Vishal doesn't have much physical injuries but due to the fall he has hurt his thalamus or hippocampus.
These are the parts of the human brain that control emotions and memories. This may result in change in his behaviour, they way he was before maybe a little different from the way he behaves now, if he was very sweet back then he would be rude about that thing, there might be slight personality changes or even a little memory loss.
Emotional changes can be still manageable but we can't help much with memory loss.
He may even get back his memories after a little period of time if you try to make him remember it by giving him some hints. I hope you're getting an idea what I am saying.", The doctor explains.

Rushi Adnan look at each other while Vishal's parents sit there in silence processing all the information.

The doctor understands the confused and worried look on theur faces and assures them that it might be retrograde amnesia.

Rushi questions the doctor, "Could you explain what is that?"

"In this type of amnesia the patient forgets his memories of the accident and before it. This loss can be of a few months, years or his whole life before the accident.

"Does this mean he may not remember anything?", Adnan asks the doctor worried.

"See child, our brain is like a circuit, sometimes a few wires may join correctly and the circuit may start working properly until then he might remember thingsbin bits and pieces if you give him hints", the doctor answers patiently their questions.

Finally after a long talk Vishal's dad speaks up, " Will he have this problem forever now?"

"Maybe or maybe not, patient may remember things after a few months too you never know, therapy helps a lot and obviously your support too", the doctor assures him

While they were talking a nurse comes in to inform the doctor that there is a psychiatrist in Vishal's ward to run tests on him.
The doctor follows her out of his cabin to Vishal's ward and takes Vishal's parents along with him.

After sometime doctor comes back with Vishal's mom dad. They sit and Rushi Adnan are waiting for them to speak something.

"It seems Vishal has lost memories of last 3-4 years approx."

"This is a long time period doctor how will he..."

"Don't panic boys, it won't be hard to retrieve his memories.", The doctor assures him

After a few hours, Vishal's parents were with him trying to talk as casually to him as possible.

Adnan texted everything what the doctor said to Advika but again no reply from her side. He thought it's early morning and she might be sleeping.

Vishal didn't even have slightest idea of what had happened as the amnestic patients do not remember the event of the trauma and with that he had lost the last 3.5 - 4 years of his life.

Retrograde amnesia has a plus side of it that it doesn't let the ability of a person to learn new things die. So there was nothing much to worry about that.

Meanwhile on the airport Advika is sitting with her phone in her hand and texts her parents that she has left and soon will be boarding the flight. She was extremely sad and worried about the three pieces of her heart that she was leaving behind in Mumbai.

2 hours on the airport and atleast a 100 times she thought of going back to them occured to her but instead what she did was check Adnan's texts.

She felt numb after reading every detail he gave. The last line of the message read, "...... please come to meet us, he needs to meet to you to remember atleast something about you"

Her head was literally spinning with everything and the last thing she wanted to do was to deal with all of this right now. S

he needed her time, a new space to clear out her head, new faces to remind her that there's a beautiful world beyond hers.

She knew if she stayed back he would have to face her parents, Vishal's parents and Adnan, Rushi and Bhavin!

With all the thoughts running in her mind she boarded her flight. It was almost 11am and Adnan was trying to call her when Rushi stopped him and told him everything what had actually happened because Adnan didn't understand her behaviour at all.

She was the one who used to call 10 times a day when someone of them used to be sick and now she disappeared!
