"Mansi I am not putting up makeup when it's totally gonna be a disaster with the haldi (turmeric) all over the makeup!", I make the final statement my hands on my hips after I tuck in the pleates of my saree.

We all had kept our outfits simple because anyways they were gonna get completely ruined!

"Fine bummer! Do whatever you want, you're ceremony your wish!", She says throwing her hands up in the air dramatically.

"Thank you!", I say and quickly put on the floral Jewellery ordered specially for the mehendi.

The photographer takes a few snaps of me getting ready along with Mom, chachi, and Mansi.

Later we head down to the lawn made ready for our haldi ceremony.

Dad greets me with a hug along with chachu and they walk me to get seated beside my groom!

Vishal looks at me and pulls at my saree near my waist as I sit beside him. Initially I thought he did that to gain my attention to him but later realised; that person wants me to cover up! I mentally slap my forehead and look away with a grin as mom approaches us with a puja thali.

Later on, all the elder women take turns applying the haldi to us while we keep stealing glances at each other. They tell us things about married life and small tips to keep the marraige going smoothly as they approach us.

Vishal and I nod in agreement to all of them not exactly in a position to say anything back even if we do not agree to their ways of keep the relationship going on smoothly.

Every generation has its own way of dealing problems and I am not saying that the old ways are wrong, it's just that maybe our ways might just be better and suitable to us than theirs.

When dad comes upto us with Mom, he cups my face in his palms and gives me a soft peck on my head and pets my hair lovingly.

All of this was once only a part of my imagination but this is actually happening today!

"Beta, never make the mistakes we made! We still cannot understand where we went wrong, and that is our problem I guess, but I know you are more mature and understanding and smarter in tackling your life than us! We have done a lot of mistakes in so many years, we will never understand how you felt all those years, but you have gone through it, never repeat this with your children!", Dad tells me and Vishal; sitting beside me, his hand over mine, this gestures was all I had expected over the years but everything happens for a reason.

If not for their mistakes, I would have never been this strong that I am today.

Dad gives me a side hug, " I am sorry for everything beta, we both love you and only want you to be happy, we never realised you were so ahead of your age and that you were capable of choosing your happiness!", He says softly only for me to hear. I look back up at him and realise his eyes were pooled with tears. I wipe away the drop that fell onto his cheek and give him a soft smile and he leaves my side.
