I sat in the waiting room of the hospital as I bit at the ends of my nails, my leg bouncing up and down from nervousness. My eyes glanced over to the clock for what seemed like the millionth time now, making me let out a frustrated sign when I noticed only two minutes had gone by. It was killing me to not know how Reese was, I was worried sick.
Pierce rode with Reese in the ambulance while I drove separately so we'd have a way of getting home. I rushed here as fast as I could, only to find out Reese broke from the seizure and had two more on the way here. I hadn't heard anything else since then and I couldn't take the anxiety that was eating away at me.
Meanwhile, I had been waiting in the waiting room for the past half hour while Pierce was back with Reese in the room. I couldn't believe this happened and I knew Pierce was going to blame himself for letting this happen, I just knew he was telling himself he should've been there. I just hoped he could snap out of that mindset and just be there for Reese, who needed him right now.
"Aspen." A voice snapped me out of my gaze directed me to the clock. Turning my head I saw a worried Xander rush in through the doors of the hospital entrance. "Xander." I breathed as I stood up from my chair and rushed over to him, Xander pulling me into a hug immediately. I was shocked at first, not expecting this type of reaction but giving in to the hug.
"Just first want to say thank you, to the both of you for getting her." Xander let out a sigh of relief as we both broke away from each other, his eyes began scanning over the surroundings "Where is she? How is she? I got here as fast as I could, the traffic was terrible."
"I don't know." I admitted feeling defeated "I haven't seen her and Pierce isn't answering his phone. All I know is she broke out of the seizure but ended up having two more in the ambulance, it all just happened so fast-I mean one minute we got there and then the next..."
I stopped myself from finishing the sentence, knowing exactly where it was leading. I pressed my lips in a thin line, my eyes softening as I watched Xander's face fall. He knew exactly what I was going to say, he knew what a drunk his father was and the deadbeat that lived inside of him.
"Then the next your dad got a hold of her," I stated firmly, not wanting to go into detail. I kept playing what happened over and over again in my head, and every time I cursed myself for not getting to her faster. I couldn't fathom how a father could do something like this, I didn't understand how he could hurt his youngest daughter like this.
"I'm going to kill him." Xander muttered the words under his breath as he looked off to the side, not sharing eye contact with me "I'm going to have his ass in jail if it's the last thing I do." I was glad to hear those words come out of his mouth, it's what Mr. Guunner deserved-but when it came to the truth I know he'd find a way to get himself out of it.
"Reese Gunner." A voice called out, making both Xander and I whip around to face Pierce along with the doctor that stood beside him. A wave of relief came over me knowing I was finally about to get some answers, although I worried the answers wouldn't be what I wanted. I mentally began preparing myself for the worse, setting the expectations low.
