Two hours later and nothing

Two hours later and nothing. It's been 2 hours since everything had happened with my father back at the table. He had yet to find me and apologize for what he said which told me he wasn't sorry because he genuinely meant it.

My head spun with emotions as my dad's words played through my head. I glanced over to a nearby grandfather clock, chiming as the next hour passed. Not only had it been two hours since my dad blamed me for the horrid events I went through, but it was also 2 hours since I heard from Cayde and Mr. Gunner.

Triston and Juniper kept me within the crowd of people on the dancefloor. I tried to dance but I was looking over my shoulder every time I'd turn around. I was growing more anxious since not hearing from either of them. They were here and they could see me, but I couldn't see them.

"Shake it!" Juniper shouted over the music to Triston who was practically twerking on top of some stranger she had found. My stomach turned into knots the more I began to think about Cayde and Mr. Gunner.

"I'll be back," I shouted to June, hoping she could hear me over the music. I knew she could hear me when she gave me a thumbs-up. I grabbed my phone from the table before rushing out of the reception area. Looking back I could see Phoenix and Xander living their best lives on the dancefloor.

Once I reached outside the reception I stood up against one of the walls, throwing my head back as I pleaded for this night to be over already. I was supposed to be out there having fun, dancing, and drinking- but instead, I was on the verge of throwing up from the nerves taking over my body.

I let out a grunt when I looked down at my phone, seeing nothing. I decided enough was enough and he wasn't the only one who got thrown in demands. Scrolling through my text messages, I came to Cayde's contact, hesitating before finally hitting the call icon next to his name.

Placing the phone to my ear, I listened to the ringing. "Pick up, you fucker." I muttered the words under my breath, looking down at the ground as I bounced on the backs of my heels. This needed to go down now, I was done waiting.

"Well, I can certainly say I haven't seen your name-calling me in years." Cayde's husky voice picked up from the other line, with an amused chuckle following behind his words. His voice sent goosebumps across my skin and my fingers tightened on my phone.

I noticed immediately that the music was faint behind him, meaning he wasn't in the reception and that he was outside of it. I couldn't understand how I hadn't managed to find him. I guess a crowd of 200 people was bigger than I expected.

"Where are you?" I gritted the words, my body becoming heated with anger.

"Miss me so much you can't wait. Don't worry Jez, I miss you too." Cayde teased from the other side of the line.

"Stop fucking around Cayde."

"Patience truly is a virtue, Ambrosia." He tsked, then immediately ended the call. I lowered my phone to my side when the line went dead, gripping it as I tried to calm my anger. Why was I even surprised? This is how Cayde is. It's his game or his game. There was no other option.
