"How was your shower? Feel better?" My mom offered me a small smile as I entered the kitchen, pulling out of one of the chairs pushed into the table, and sitting down to join them. While exhausted, I was glad to have some company to take my mind off everything."That shower seemed to take an awful lot of time..." Aster leaned back in his chair, his hands shoved in his pockets as he narrowed his eyes in my direction before landing on Pierce who took a seat beside me.
"You bet it did," Pierce spoke up, giving Aster a pestering smirk to get beneath his skin. Every chance Pierce got he would take it to bug my brother. However, over the past year, they had grown closer than I could imagine. For years even before I came to New York, Aster had hated Pierce knowing that my mother was involved in Crestmont.
Aster said their relationship changed after I was taken by the Coinstons and Vipers. He saw how much Pierce cared about me and how his determination to find me would stop at nothing. Aster said Pierce fought like no end to get me back and he will never forget how much he did to find me.
"Just because you're my best friend doesn't mean that I won't kill you." Aster snapped back in a teasing manner. Most girls would find it annoying, but I was more than glad I was here to witness the two of them banter over nonsense.
"I'm your best man, you can't kill me." Pierce gave his shoulders a shrug, the smirk on his lips not budging an inch. "You have no other friends." That wasn't true, Aster did have friends-just not as close as Pierce.
"I-" Aster opened up his mouth to say something but I quickly interrupted before this conversation could turn from banter to an argument. They both enjoyed getting under each other's skins but the problem was most of the time neither of them knew when to stop.
"So." I stopped Aster from continuing, "You know how I bought Pierce tickets to Aspen, Colorado? Well, we're thinking about using them in a few weeks." I wanted to get away from New York for a bit. Everything was too real here and I wanted a break just for once. I was hoping to fly out so we could be in Aspen, Colorado on my birthday.
"Colorado?" My mom hesitated. "Aspen you can't travel-"
"It wouldn't be for a couple of weeks and I'll call the doctor tomorrow to see what he thinks." I shrugged slightly, offering a small smile to try to reassure her worries. I knew that was the first thing she was going to say but I didn't want to stop living my life because of what happened. I saw this as a second chance at life and I was going to enjoy it. "I just want to be able to take a break for a while...get away from everything and start fresh before the spring semester."
"Well..." She sighed, trying to put aside her worries to support me. "As long as the doctor says it's okay. Plus Aspen is beautiful this time of year." My mom always traveled to Aspen Colorado, she said it was one of her favorite places to visit especially during the wintertime with the snow-covered mountains. She loved it so much that she named me after it.
