"Hey." June's cheery voice rang through my ears as she flashed her pearly white smile in my direction. She lifted her head up, tucking a strand of her wavy dirty blonde hair behind her ear. I shoved my hands in my pockets and continued to walk in their direction. Triston sat beside her, practically passed out in the camping chair.
"Someone, a little wasted, already?" I questioned as I took a seat beside her, nodding over to a passed-out Triston. She was practically curled up in the chair, her knees pulled up to her chest and her head resting on the arm of the chair. Her blonde hair was scattered across her face and her mouth had been wide open.
"A little?" June laughed, taking a swig from the beer bottle she held in her hand, "Someone was plastered by 3 o'clock today. Not one, not two, but eight shots tonight with Mars while we all were helping set up for the wedding tomorrow."
"Where's Mars?" I looked around as I sunk down into the black-colored camping chair, taking in the heat from the fire. After a long day of preparing everything for the wedding and reception tomorrow, Xander and Phoenix decided to have one last night together with everyone. Their idea was to have a campfire in the back of the resort and lugged a bunch of chairs outside for everyone.
Although the fire was big and bright, it was still only 20-something degrees outside. I leaned forward in my chair to get closer to the flames, sticking my hands out in an attempt to warm myself up. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, just sitting around and laughing with one another. It was moments like this where Crestmont felt like a family.
"Passed the hell out." June rolled her eyes, throwing her boots up on the other arm of the chair so she was now sitting horizontally in it. "Boy could not keep up, after the eighth shot Pierce and Cypress practically had to carry him up to his hotel room. Cypress went to check on him an hour ago, still passed out on the floor of the room."
"Triston certainly can out-drink anyone." I let out a small chuckle, glancing over to the sleeping Triston all bundled up in her chair. "But that hangover's going to be a bitch tomorrow."
"Oh definitely." June let out a laugh before looking over to me and away from the fire. "Where were you doing the setup? I thought you were planning on helping set up. I didn't see you after brunch."
"Oh-" I blinked slowly, taking in what she said. "Yeah sorry, I just had such a massive migraine I needed to lay down for a while. I'm sorry I skipped, I just really didn't feel good." Lie. After I left Pierce's room with the gun and no bullets, I practically had a mental breakdown and an ocean full of panic. I spent the rest of my day in my bedroom pacing back and forth trying to figure out how I was going to face Cayde. I spent hours drawing up maps of the hotel, but it felt impossible. My anxiety was eating me alive.
"No worries, we had more than enough people. Are you feeling better?" June asked, taking another sip of her beer, making me nod in response. I looked ahead, folding my fingers together as I continued to lean forward in the chair. I stared through the flames of the fire, watching Phoenix and Xander.
