"Someone has been blocking all of your text through a server," Pierce stated, but he seemed confused. Although I wasn't confused in the slightest, I knew exactly who it had been. I knew it was Cayde, but why was he blocking my text? And how was I going to convince Pierce this was nothing when I was already suspicious in his eyes?
"What do you mean?" I quickly took my phone from him, staring down at the screen as I expected a text from Cayde any minute now. I began to try and think of the last time I received a text from anyone else and it had been about two days ago. "Can I send a text?"
I didn't understand what this could be. The only reason I could think that Cayde would block my text would be so I couldn't text or call anyone for help when the time would come.
"No." Pierce swallowed hard, raising his head as his eyes fixated on mine. The look on his face told me that he knew there was something up and that there was no convincing him otherwise. I may have hated Pierce lately for what he's done but I wanted to tell him everything. I wanted to tell him that Cayde was planning his revenge and was somewhere within the crowd of the wedding. I wanted to tell him that his dad was working with Cayde.
But I couldn't. Not if I didn't want him to hurt Reese. Cayde made it very clear that if I told anyone about what was happening that he would hurt Reese. I could never do that to her and for her own safety, I kept it to myself. I was going to have to figure it out myself.
"You need to tell me what's going on now," Pierce demanded, his voice having a hint of harshness within it. His eyes were dark and boring into me, the intensity of his stare making my skin crawl as my body heated up under pressure.
"I already told you nothing is going on. The only thing that is going on is me going back to that reception and having a few too many drinks tonight." I tried to play it off, stiffening up my back as I began to walk back in the direction of the entrance to the reception. By the sound of the music, their first dance was coming to an end.
I got only a foot away before a hand grabbed at my waist, pulling me back with little effort. I stumbled over my heels before being placed directly in front of Pierce. His frame towered over me, making me feel intimidated by his stance. I was avoiding eye contact as much as possible so I wouldn't break.
"Where's my gun, Aspen?" His voice said huskily, his eyes not leaving me as his hand clutched at the side of my waist to keep me in place.
Fuck.
"What gun?" I swallowed hard, trying to play it off as if I knew nothing. I felt the blood rush through my body as soon as the words left his mouth, hitting me like a brick. My stomach churned and I tried to keep my breathing steady as I hid the panic fighting to appear on my face.
"My gun that's been missing for a few days." Pierce reaffirmed, his fingers digging into the satin of my dress. "And I know you have it."
"Don't be ridiculous. Why would I have your gun? Maybe you should question Mercury, after all, she apparently has access to your room." I spurred out my words, trying to make the suspiciousness turn to Mercury. It was just a few hours I need to buy myself.
