"No. Annabeth you don't understand- Annabeth, please. I understand how it works but I will not continue to have my little sister in that environment." Xander let out an exhausted sigh as he paced back and forth, his phone pressed up against his ear. Xander had been on the phone with Annabeth, who was the Gunner family social worker.

I looked over to Pierce who sat beside me on the couch, his eyes fixated on his phone as he and June texted back and forth. Pierce ended up spending the night with Reese at the hospital last night, he barely got any sleep after attempting to sleep on the uncomfortable couch all night. I tried to offer to stay instead because I knew he needed his sleep, but he insisted he stayed.

Everyone was taking turns being at the hospital with Reese, we all agreed to not leave her alone even if Reese probably was going crazy with all of her siblings on top of her. The doctor said she was doing better this morning, she finally was able to keep some food down but they were still going to keep her for a couple more days. I was more than relieved to hear she was doing okay.

"Hey," I nudged Pierce, "Have you talked to your mom?" I knew Mrs. Gunner was a sore topic right now but I couldn't help but ask. It was a horrible thing she did, just watching as her husband abused their youngest daughter. But in reality, I knew Mrs. Gunner had been trapped in this toxic relationship since her early teenage years, she was trapped. This is exactly what toxic relationships did, they made her blind to everything else.

"No, fuck her." Pierce didn't even look up from his screen, continuing to text Juniper a lengthy paragraph about everything happening with Annabeth. "Ok I understand, but if there is any way I can speed it up. I can have my lawyer contact you-" Xander continued on with Annabeth before walking out of the room.

"Pierce, you know her dad has her locked in and so easily manipulated. You have every right to be mad at her, but please don't push her out of your life because of this." I knew she was in the wrong, but I also knew her situation as well as how important she was to Pierce. What he was feeling was pure anger, he just had to cool off.

"I can't believe you're sticking up for her, Aspen." Pierce finally put his phone away, turning his head over to mine "Until she leaves that fucker, I'm done with her. She has screwed us over one too many times by not leaving him. It didn't happen to me, Aspen it happened to REESE. I will not sit around and have my little sister abused by some deadbeat that she won't kick out."

"Ok." I agreed, knowing I shouldn't push it anymore than I already have. I leaned back into the couch and turned my attention toward the TV that was above the mantle. It was some news channel that Xander had on, but it was just your usual broadcast.

There was a ring at the doorbell, my head snapping over to Pierce who got up from the couch instantly and began to walk towards the hallway that led to the grand front doors. I questioned who could even be here right now, I mean the rest of the gang didn't know the three of us were together at Xander's house.
