Natalie was going to be staying with us for a while?

Huh?

"What?" I looked at Charlotte and Damien, and then Natalie. She was holding Emily, who had gotten so much bigger.

"I left mom and dads." Natalie said. She looked exhausted. She had cut her dark hair to her shoulders, and she had on a black sweatshirt and leggings.

I walked over and stood at the counter next to her.
"Why did you leave?" I asked. This was blowing my mind. I never expected Natalie to leave my parents house.
She looked at me. She had bags under her eyes. And she also looked like she had been crying.
"I kind of understand where you're coming from, I think." she sighed, "So I started dating this guy about two months ago. Mom and dad honestly have gotten to the point where they don't ask me questions anymore about my life. So when I would go out occasionally and see him, all mom would say was to not get pregnant again." Natalie rolled her eyes.
"Sounds like them to not really care." I said.
"So, his name is Enrique Alvarez, the guy I've been dating. I met him when I went out with a couple of friends from Church. He was the server." Natalie started.
I know where this is going.
"You like him a lot?" I asked Natalie.
"So much." she couldn't help but smile, "Naturally, I wanted mom and dad to meet him. I didn't think there would be any issues. But there was."
Her face dropped.
"Is Enrique Hispanic" I asked her.
She nodded, "He's Mexican. And apparently, that is a problem."
I saw Charlotte shaking her head.
"It's not surprising that it is a problem." I said.
"I thought it wouldn't be. He's a Christian. He is such a nice guy. He's 22 years old. He doesn't mind whatsoever that I am a mom, he's so sweet with Emily. Dad was polite when he met him- but I could tell he didn't approve. Mom was downright rude. And it disgusted me." Natalie said, "Left such a bitter taste in my mouth."
"Also along with being homophobic, mom and dad are pretty racist." I said.
"Now I realize. I didn't think it would matter. There are people of all different races at the Church. But I guess I'm not allowed to date them."
"What happened after they met him?"
"I told them I was very upset about how they acted toward him, especially mom. Dad seemed to understand, and he apologized. But still didn't give me his approval. But mom...she started going off. Telling me I was stupid. That spiraled into her telling me I was stupid for keeping Emily. She was disappointed in me. I couldn't handle it. So I came here." Natalie said. Tears were forming in her eyes.

Charlotte came around the counter and hugged Natalie from behind. "You know you always have a place here. You and Emily. And Enrique can come by whenever."
"Thank you, Charlotte. And Damien." Natalie said, a tear rolling down her cheek.
"I'm really sorry this happened." I looked at Natalie.
"I'm...really sorry too." she looked back at me.
And I knew what she meant. For Christmas.

Natalie moved herself into the guest room. She didn't bring Emily's crib, but her and Charlotte were going to go out and buy something she could sleep in.

This was weird. Natalie being here. I almost couldn't help but feel upset. She now experienced what I had basically. And she treated me terribly while everything with me was going on.

I called Dani and told her about Natalie. She couldn't believe it either.
"Is she going to be rude to me if we ever meet?" Dani asked me.
"She sure as hell won't. I won't let it. I'm hoping she has a better understanding now of how homophobic she is, considering mom and dad don't approve of who she is dating now." I said.

The next day I didn't have school or work. And after the week behind me- I needed a day to relax.
I had plans to go to Dani's later- she was going to be hanging out and getting dinner with Colby.

Colby.
I didn't miss being in a relationship with her. But I almost felt bad too- for having Dani be in this position. For essentially going behind her back as well.
