Escaping you
"I can't believe this is actually happening." My mom speaks from my side of the hospital bed, doctors wiping my arm to put in an IV. I smile up at my mom, already somewhat drowsy from the drugs they gave me.
My whole family surrounds the room, Paige, my mom, my dad, Everette, Athena. Zach and Leah didn't want to overcrowd the hospital and said they'd come by after I had woken up after surgery.
The doctor explains the risks and I sign off on the surgery regardless because I'd much rather have an unsuccessful surgery than just accept my own death- not after everything happening.
Please go smoothly.
The doctor tells everyone to leave the room and that they're about to wheel me up to the third floor for surgery.
"Can you give me and him a minute?" I ask pointing towards Everette and the doctor Nods, Everette goes to hand Athena to Paige and I shake my head at him
"She can stay." I smile and he scoots closer to me.
I grab Athena and pull her up to the edge of my bed, she lays her head across my legs and I smoothe her hair.
"If this doesn't work-"
"It will." Everette interrupts me
"Just let me say this, okay?" I say and he nods.
"If this doesn't work, and I'm not saying it won't, just know I love you more than anything Everette. I can't wait to get out of here and just marry you, but if I can't, I love you, and I hope that you'll consider me your wife anyways." I pause and wipe the single tear rolling down his cheek
"Of course." He whispers and I press his face towards my body
"I love you." I say and he looks back up at me with tears in his eyes
"I love you so much, sweetheart." He responds and I kiss him softly
Athena perks up and pulls herself closer to my face
"No kiss for me? She asks and I laugh
"Yes you too, come here." I kiss her little head in between her pigtails and she smiles
"I love you kiddo." I say and her grin widens across her face
I don't even think I've ever said that to her. Of course I love her, but I'm not her biological mother, despite the fact they never deserved her anyways, but I don't want to make her upset.
"I love you too Attie!" She says back and Ev smiles, grabbing her off of me and he sends one final wave before walking out the door.
"We'll be waiting for you." He says with a smile, leaving the room.
The doctor comes back in after Ev leaves and he wheels me up to surgery, my consciousness fading quickly after the give me the anesthesia and tell me to countdown from 10.

"What the fuck?" I question, raising up and Everette is squeezing my hand so tight it could fall off
He sighs heavily with tears on his face and let's go of my hands, pulling me towards him in a hug
"Well hi there." I laugh and he sniffles with a laugh
