Escaping you
Everette
6 years later

"Girls! I love you all but we have places to be, Cmon people" I tell up the stairs. We were supposed to be at dinner reservations 20 minutes ago.

Evangeline comes tumbling down the stairs and I see her trip on the last step, falling on her knees.

She starts crying and I walk over to her and lift her under her arms and putting her on my hip.

"Hey hey hey don't cry." She continues to cry as Athena walks downstairs.

Athena, now almost 12 is honestly mine and Atlas's lord and savior. She helps with Eva more than we can ever thank her for and she's honestly the best kid in the world.

"Why's she crying?" Athena asks and Eva sniffles dramatically.

"What'd you do?" Athena asks again and I roll my eyes

"I'll have you know I am your parent, remember, and also, she fell." This time Athena rolls her eyes and takes the toddler from me and she stops crying.

Oh wow.

"You did something." Athena says and Atlas walks downstairs

"Sorry, I'm sorry." She says rushing and I smile at her

"Don't be." I kiss her on the lips quickly before ushering her and the girls out of the door so we can still actually go to dinner.

I put Eva in her car seat in the car and Athena gets in on the other side of her.

"Daddy." Eva says.

Over. And over. And over.

Every time I respond she stays quiet before saying daddy again.

Help me.

I'm just kidding. I love her.

We pull up to the restaurant and Atlas gets Eva out, Athena already being inside by the time we are ready to walk in.

"When did our daughter get so- grown?" I ask Atlas, pointing to our Eleven year old talking to the waitress.

She shrugs, Eva running behind her

"Eva don't run inside baby." Atlas says and she continues to run in circles

We haven't even gotten to the table yet.

I sigh, walking to the other side of Atlas and picking up Eva, trying not to disturb everyone eating dinner.

We finally make it to the table and Athena is laying her head on Paige's arms at the table.

"Hey baby sister." Atlas says and Paige stands to hug her

"You, my lovely sister and brother in law and nieces, are late." Paige points out

"Blame them." Athena pipes up, pointing at me and Atlas and paige laughs. Eva just stays focused on coloring on her kids menu.

"You're just like your mother." I sigh and Atlas smacks me in the arm.

Thank god this is a private reservation.
