Chapter 3: Just Keep Digging

When Alexis woke up from her sleep she noticed that it was light outside meaning she didn't sleep for long. When she walked outside she that only a few people were at camp. Alexis walks up to Jacqui who is standing looking off towards the forest.

¨What's going on?¨ Alexis asked, confused.

¨It's Jim, apparently he's been digging holes all day. He's scaring a lot of people, Shane went to go talk to him. I bet he's just going to end up like Ed.¨ Jacqui explained.

¨What happened to Ed?¨ Alexis asked.

¨Shane beat the crap out of him after he hit Carol down at the quarry. It was intense.¨ The older woman explained.

Alexis watched as Shane and everyone else that was missing came out of the forest with a tied up Jim. Shane placed him down by a tree and tied a rope around it so that Jim could not move. When Lori approached the girl she gave her a smile and looked at her head wound, ¨How's the battle scar?¨ Lori asked.

¨Good, I feel fine. It's just a little scratch.¨ Alexis explained. ¨Is Jim okay.¨ She asked.
¨Yeah, he just needs some time to calm down.¨ Lori explains walking over to Carl, Sophia and Carol, with Alexis following behind her.

¨Sorry if I scared your boy and your little girl.¨ Jim said to Lori and Carol.

Lori looked up at the man and said, ¨You had sunstroke. Nobody'is blaming you¨

¨You're not scared now, are you?¨ Jim asked Sophia.

¨No sir.¨ She replied.

Silence fell over the group for a second until Jim spoke up again, ¨Your mama's right, sun just cooked my head is all.¨

¨Jim, do you know why you were digging?¨ Dale asked.

¨I had a reason, Don't remember. Something I dreamt last night.΅ Jim he paused and then looked at Carl, ¨Your dad was in it, and you. You were worried about him, can't remember the rest. You worried about your dad?¨

¨They're not back yet.¨ Carl said.

Lori rubbed Carl's arm and looked at Jim, ¨We don't need to talk about that.¨

Alexis got zoned out when she saw Jaqcui staring at the man with concern. Eventually everyone started walking away from the man tied to the tree.

Later that night everyone stood around the campfire eating fish and some decided that beer was the best option. Everyone sat around the fire and had conversations that made everyone's laughs fill the night. Jim is even here with us.

¨I got to ask you man, it's been driving me crazy.¨ Morales says looking at Dale.

¨What?¨

¨That watch.¨

¨What's wrong with my watch?¨ Dale asked with a smile.

¨I see you at the same time everyday, winding that thing like a village priest saying mass.΅ Morales explained.

Andrea nods in agreement with his statement, trying not to speak with food in her mouth. Alexis has got to say that she herself has been wondering the same thing.
¨I've wondered this myself.¨ Jacqui butts in.

¨I'm missing the point.¨ Dale says with a smile still on his face.

¨Unless I've misread the signs, the word seems to have come to an end. At least hit a speed bump for a good long while.¨ Jacqui explains.

¨But there's you everyday winding that stupid watch.¨ Morales finishes.

¨Time, it's important to keep track, isn't it? The days at least. Don't you think, Andrea?¨ He asked the young women. ¨Back me up here.¨

Andrea awkwardly chuckles like she's in an uncomfortable position.

¨Dale as much as I love you, that makes not that much sense, but at the same time it makes so much sense.¨ Alexis said, making everyone chuckle.

Dale went on about this whole monolog about time and what not but Alexis does not think anyone took it seriously. Amy stood up and Andrea looked at the girl confused, ¨Where are you going?¨

¨I have to pee. Jeez, you try and be discreet around here.¨ Amy says, making everyone laugh when she walks away. Silence breaks over the group until Amy comes back out of the Rv, ¨We're out of toilet paper?¨

Alexis looked up to the Rv just in time to see Amy getting bit in the arm by one of the creatures that somehow snuck up here. Amy screamed which caused everyone to notice the creatures that swarmed the camp.

¨Mom!¨ Alexis heard Carl scream.

¨Lori get him down!¨ Shane yelled and immediately started shooting at the creatures that flooded the camp.

Alexis ran up to one of them and stabbed it in the face making it fall to the floor still.

¨Alexis get over here!¨ Lori yelled.

¨Everyone follow me!¨ Shane yelled.

When Alexis tried to run to the group something rammed into her making her fall to the ground, when she looked up she was met with an undead face growling trying to bite her.

¨Shane!¨ Alexis yelled, staring at the man, but he just looked at the girl and turned to take Lori and Carl back to the Rv.

'No. Please not like this.' Alexis thought.

The creature was just about to take a bite out of Alexis's neck but it went still. When she looked up she saw Daryl pulling the creature off her and then pulling her up. ¨Are you okay?¨ He asked running to the Rv.

¨Yeah, thanks. Again.¨ Alexis said, reaching the Rv with the rest of the group right when the gunshots stopped.

¨Baby! Carl!¨ Rick yelled running up to Lori and Carl.

¨Dad!¨ Carl yelled running to his father and giving him a tight hug as he once again reunited with his family.

Alexis walked up to the Rv and looked as Andrea held Amy in her hands, blood soaking both girls she Amy laid still.

¨No, no, no. Amy.¨ Andrea cried.

Everyone cried around the two girls as Alexis walked up to Shane.

¨Hey Shane, next time you need help.¨ Alexis paused looking him dead in the eyes, ¨You better hope it's not me that's by you. I almost died and that's on you!¨ Then she walked away.

Shane tensed at the girl's words and looked down at the ground not wanting to look at her or the recently reunited family. Daryl heard what the girl said and looked at Shane with a confused glance before following the girl.

Andrea screams filled the night as everyone stood not wanting to make a sudden movement.
