"Will the following contestants please line up," a staff member said to the dancers backstage.
He read out five pairs, including Duke and Duchess, and Sehun and Lay.
Everyone knew what this meant: those five were the final of the final. One of the pairs were going to win this.
Victor gracefully strode onto the stage, with a solemn look on his face.
"Unfortunately," he said, "there can only be one winning pair. Will the following contestants please come out."
He called out the same contestants the staff member had called.
Hannah tried to read Sehun's face. He looked so serious; she wished that he would look at her.
Her wish was granted. Sehun looked up and searched the crowd for her. When he found her, they locked eyes.
All the words they couldn't say...all the things she wanted to scream...somehow he understood.
And he smiled.
It was the most beautiful, most genuine smile Hannah had ever seen him smile.
She had decided, then and there. She knew for sure. Whatever the results were, whatever happened here, she would from that point on, love him. All his flaws, and his perfections. All his quirks and asshole moments. She would embrace them; she would love him.
He would too.
"We've seen them perform, seen them give their all," Victor said. "It is time."
"Congratulations," he said in a louder voice.
Hannah wasn't worried. She watched Lay and Sehun's performance. They were fantastic, and definitely were better than the rest. They were so good they-
"Duke and Duchess!"
The crowd leaped up and screamed with approval. Confetti and streamers exploded from every direction, balloons falling from the roof.
Kris, Arlene, Tao, Luhan, and Hannah sat there staring at the stage.
Sehun felt someone grab his hand. It was Lay. Lay grinned at him and brought him into a bear hug.
"Don't stress too much," Lay yelled into his ear to be hear over the noise. "We were pretty fantastic, anyway."
Sehun laughed and hugged him back. This wasn't the first time they had tasted defeat, but something about this defeat felt bitter.
Maybe it was because they could both feel the dance studio slipping from their grasp.
