"Hannah, come on. What's wrong?" Arlene asked Hannah countless times, but to no prevail. "Haaannaaaahhhh. I wanna help you!"
Hannah groaned. "Nothing's wrong. I'm fine."
Arlene pouted, "You're such a bad liar."
The bell rang, so the girls walked to class.
"Okay, everybody, settle down. Settl-WILLIAM. SIT." Mrs. Misaki was trying to get the class to calm down.
The bell rung a second time, making the class go still.
Mrs. Misaki straightened her blouse and walked to the front of the room.
"Please turn your projects in, everyone," she said. "Except for Hannah and Sehun, and Arlene and Kris."
Hannah began to glance over at Sehun, but stopped herself. She sighed and placed her chin on her fist.
After everyone turned their projects in, Mrs. Misaki told Hannah and Sehun to stand up.
"These two will be presenting first. Arlene and Kris will be presenting second." She gestured for Hannah and Sehun to come forward.
Hannah looked across the room at Sehun. Sehun grabbed the poster and big white cue cards without glancing over to her. Hannah sighed and walked over to the board, gripping her USB tightly.
She inserted the USB and opened up the Powerpoint on Mrs. Misaki's computer.
"Do you want to go first?" Hannah asked Sehun quietly. He ignored her.
Hannah cleared her throat and began.
"Our project will be about South Korea," Hannah said in Korean.
The slide changed to landscapes of South Korea. The white cards had the English translations of what Hannah was saying; it was Sehun's idea.
The class looked intrigued and fascinated that they were speaking in Korean. Mrs. Misaki was delighted.
Sehun coughed, making Hannah falter in her words. She peeked at him. Sehun was subtly gesturing to the cards and then to her; he wanted to switch positions. Hannah nodded and obliged.
"South Korea has many...," Sehun began to speak in perfect Korean. The class gasped in surprise, making him smirk.
Hannah grinned.
Sehun kept talking. It seemed that he wanted to finish the project, which was fine with Hannah.
When they got to the "Modern day South Korea" section, Sehun paused. Out of script, he began talking about kdramas in English.
Hannah looked at him with confusion. "Where are you going with this?" She asked him quietly, in Korean.
Sehun stopped talking. He looked at Hannah and said in Korean, "What's going on between you and Luhan?"
Hannah took a step back, crashing into the trash can. "What?" She replied.
"I'm not an idiot. If you liked him, why play with me?"
"I wasn't playing with you! Sehun-"
"Hannah, don't lie to me."
"This is pointless. Why talk about this in the middle of our project?"
"Because they can't understand Korean."Hannah opened and closed her mouth like a fish. She turned away from him and blinked the tears forming in her eyes away. She tried to continue with the project.
"I never even liked you, anyway," Sehun said again, interrupting her.
Hannah couldn't stop herself; her tears dripped down her face. She laughed bitterly and faced him again. "What makes you think that I would care?"
"So you don't care?"
"No. You're just a arrogant little prick to me. I was unlucky to have you as a partner."Sehun laughed, "Then never speak to me again. Honestly, I feel just the same. After this, I'll leave you alone and you'll do the same."
Hannah was silent, his words seeping through her skin and finding her heart. Her chest ached.
Hannah sniffed and turned away again. "That's fine with me."
She looked at the class. Everyone was silent, staring at the two. Then, in unison, they began to applaud.
"Wow!"
"Amazing!"
"Just like real actors!"
"Did you get this from a real kdrama?"Hannah bit her lip. "Of course," she thought. "Kdrama. You're a genius, Oh."
Mrs. Misaki smiled at Hannah. Her eyes said, "Thank you." She motioned for them to sit down.
Hannah smiled and nodded her head.
As Kris walked past Hannah's desk to present his project, he muttered in Korean, "Are you alright?"
Hannah stared at his back with wide eyes.
"Oh yeah," Hannah screamed in her head. "You're Korean."
She watched Kris stare Sehun down.
Sehun glanced over at Hannah. Hannah blinked at him.
He slightly shook his head and looked away.
