It was heading towards her, the tires screeching. The driver of the car had her mouth open in a silent scream of horror as she pounded on the horn.
Hannah stared at the driver. Her eyes told Hannah: "Move."
Hannah's limbs were like syrup; the time slowed. But she could not move.
And she didn't.
Hannah felt impact against her torso, knocking the breath out of her. She was thrown to the ground, hot air and shaky breathing in her ear.
"What?" Hannah mumbled, "I...I was hit..."
She didn't feel any major pains, but she did feel a heavy object on top of her. Maybe she was simply numb.
Or Luhan had thrown himself against Hannah, safely pushing her away from the moving car.
"Hannah! Luhan!" Arlene screeched at the top of her lungs. Tao was scrambling over with Kris stumbling right behind.
"Are you alright?" Luhan whispered into Hannah's ear, his breath making her skin warm. It sent tingles shooting up her spine.
Hannah coughed, and nodded her head.
"Oh my God!" The driver cried, running over. "I'm so sorry! Are you alright? Are you hurt? Why were you running?! God, I'm-you're...are you okay?"
Tao gripped Hannah's arm and hauled her up as Kris did the same for Luhan.
"We're fine, sorry for running into traffic," Luhan apologized for Hannah. "There's nothing you need to worry about."
"Are you sure? I'm so sorry, I'm-"
"Look, we're fine. Nothing's broken, you don't have to do anything," Hannah interrupted impatiently and anxiously. "Sorry, but we ha...I have to be somewhere right now."
The lady stared at her with a shocked expression, but it melted as she took in the group's anxiety. She nodded her head numerous times.
"If you're sure...be safe. No more careless actions! You could really get hurt, you kids!" She said fiercely.
They thanked her and began to leave. The woman's hand shot out and grabbed Hannah's arm.
"Be careful. Whatever's wrong, I hope it gets resolved soon. No more running!" She whispered harshly, a small smile playing on her lips.
Hannah grinned back. She broke free and caught up with the rest of them.
"Where's the hospital?" Kris asked immediately as he started the car.
"I got it," Arlene muttered and typed the address in on her phone. "Just hurry."
~
They burst through the hospital's doors, all short of breath. Hannah thought that she was doing this too often.
"Samuel!" She shouted.
Samuel stood up from his chair and walked briskly to her, enveloping her body with his lean arms.
"Your mom's in the ER, Hannah. I'm sorry. It took forever to get your aunt to stop sobbing. Your dad's in some waiting room upstairs, I'm not really sure. He's the one who told me everything. Hannah, I'm so, so sorry," he spoke quietly, but rapidly, as if he only had a second left to live.
For one of Hannah's loved ones, that was probably the case.
Hannah stepped away from Samuel, crashing into Luhan. Luhan hugged her from behind.
Hannah broke free from his embrace and turned to face him. She pressed herself onto him, and sobbed into his chest. She balled up the hems of his shirt into her fists and cried. Luhan's fingers squeezed her arms; he murmured words of comfort.
But what could comfort do at that moment? Everything, absolutely everything, was slipping from Hannah's grasp.
~
Hannah sat on the floor, her knees to her chest and her head on her arms which rested on her knees.
More than once, her friends tried to get her to sit on a seat, or to get her to drink some water. Every time, she declined or ignored them. She didn't want to be spoken to or touched.
She knew that she should be more grateful for them to be here. The only reason why they were spending their night at the hospital was because of her.
Tao's phone rang. His thumb hovered above the answer button. He glanced over in Hannah's direction, and answered, dashing away from the group.
Despite his efforts, Hannah still heard him: "Hey, Mom..."
Hannah clenched her lips together. She screamed for the pain to go away. Her screams became begs. She pleaded for the monstrous ball of hurt to leave her body, but it would not.
Luhan took one look at her and stood up from his chair. He faced Kris.
"Give me your phone," he demanded, extending his hand.
Kris looked at it, puzzled, "What do you need it for?"
"I need to call someone."
"What's wrong with yours?"
"He won't answer my phone. He knows my number."
"Who are y-oh. Oh. You're not serious."
"Kris. It's for her."Kris sighed in defeat and handed his phone over.
Hannah watched Luhan as he dialed and placed the phone to his ear.
"Hello? Kris?" The person answered.
"She needs you, Sehun. She needs you here with her right now," Luhan hissed.
His name was a brick to Hannah's air pipe. She shivered, and found a new longing. She didn't know what the longing was yet...wait, she did.
She wanted him here.
She wanted Sehun's body near her, she wanted his arms around her narrow shoulders. She wanted to see is face, to hear is voice.
She didn't care if he was a jerk, or held an awful standing at school. Hannah was ready to accept him for who he was. She was aware that he probably never wanted to see her again...but she didn't care one bit.
She just wanted him.
"Sehun! Hannah's in pain! You're the only one who can help her right now! I'm sure you know what's going on with her mom? Her mom's in the ER! Are you just going to leave Hannah like that, you stuck up ass? Are you?" Luhan yelled into the phone. He didn't wait for Sehun's response.
"Don't do it for me, you piece of dirt. Do it for her. That's what I'm asking you, alright? I'm sorry that you got you information mixed up. She wants you, not me. Get that through your head."
Luhan hung up. He turned to Hannah and gave her a rueful smile.
A staff walked up to Luhan.
"Sir, please lower you voice. May I have your name, please?" She asked him politely.
Luhan sighed and told her. Her eyes instantly widened along with her mouth.
"Wait...Luhan?" She stuttered.
He raised an eyebrow and nodded slowly.
She grabbed his hand and began to drag him away, to the elevator. She was shouting, "I found him! I need to tell the dad!"
Hannah scrambled up from her position and tried to run to them, but Arlene held her back.
"Hannah," Arlene protested quietly.
"No! Don't take him too!" Hannah screamed.
"Hannah, he'll be back. Don't worry," Arlene whispered soothingly.
"Don't worry!" The staff member repeated Arlene's words. "We'll be back fairly soon!"
Hannah stared helplessly as the elevator doors shut.
