AFTER FOUR YEARS THIS STORY IS FINISHED!!! I will release a chapter a week until it is done for some unnecessary suspense ✌️
"Devin!" I scream.
Apparently Devin has been sleeping on the couch at the soccer house all day.
"Dev, answer me!" I scream as I shake his shoulder.
"EMS!"
I hear a bang on the door as two EMTs enter the house. A black guy and a blonde girl.
He's breathing and everything so I know the kid is alive, but what the heck happened? We just spoke.
"Devin! It's Rony!"
"Devin!" The guy EMT runs over and shakes his shoulder, just like I did.
"What's going on today? When was he last seen well?" ."Yeah, you hear that! Wwwhat the heck did you guys d-do to him? The last time I came with him to prrractice you treated him like shit. I swear if you did any hazing or -"
"Oh stop talking, kid! You left him tonight. He was just talking about going to some party with you."
He told them we were going to a party?
"Left him? H-h-he told me he was coming late."
"Look, he's lying. He's stuttering." This white trash looking kid points toward me.
"Very c-cool, you noticed my chr-chronic sssspeech disorder. Congrats." I roll my eyes.
"Boys! Boys! We don't have time for the finger pointing. Please just tell us whatever it is you know." The girl EMT asks.
"What's going on with Devin? What has he told you?" I turn toward the soccer players.
"He's your friend, Dude. What would we know? He's the one who begged to join this team."
Begged? He told me he got a scholarship for soccer.
"Ha! Yeah he's such a try hard." Another guy snickers.
"Honestly dude, if we didn't call you we would get suspended from sports clubs."I widen my eyes.
"You jjjust brought me to cover yourself? You don't ac-ac-ac-actually care?" I force the words out louder as I hear the guys trying to interrupt me.
"Newsflash, not everyone in life will give a crap about lost causes like your friend."
Ok, for that line the other guys look to the white trashy guy with a cool it look, but that didn't stop me.
I drag my tall ass right up to this guys face and shove him across the room.
"You're next buddy." I whisper.
Who am I??
"Hey! Hey! I don't know what this is about, but I'm warning you there are police cars outside the house and it's best for all of us if we don't get them in here...now, one of you can come accompany us. Especially so when Devin wakes up then-"
"I-I-I-I will g-go..."
I follow behind as they push the stretcher to the ambulance. It feels like the longest walk I've ever taken even if it is only around 25 feet.
The blonde EMT walks me into the side of the ambulance before she hops in the front to drive .
The guy stays back with Devin and me.
"He's my best friend from ch-ch-ch-ch-childhood." I break the ice as I feel my eyes go dead.
I buckle my seatbelt and bury my face into my hands.
"And yyyyyet lllateley in college we both changed..."
I look down at Dev and slap his hand lightly a few times. He really just looks like he is napping but something isn't right still.
"Wwwell at least I trrrrried to change, and Devin here ac-ac-actually d-d-d-d-did." I feel my eyes tear up and my chest tighten as I struggle to speak.
The EMT looks at me as he prepares equipment out of his bag.
"This is the toughest time of your life. It's ok to feel overwhelmed."
I nod.
"But don't worry about your friend. His vitals are completely fine. Come, we are going to try something. I just didn't want to do this in the house since it can make them a little violent and I didn't want tensions any worse in there."
Come again?
"Uh..ok.."
The EMT pulls a vial out of his bag and sticks it up Devin's nose?
"Watch..."
Devin slowly opens his eyes and I don't know if I should feel extremely relieved or really confused.
"Holy crap! Where am I?!" Devin screams. His shaky arms are clenched to the handles of the stretcher and he is hyperventilating. Totally panicked...
"Devin..it's ok bud. You are in the ambulance. You don't have to tell us what you were doing but you overdosed on opioids, Bud. I reversed it with narcan."
Devin looks over at me wide eyed.
"I'm here, Dude...I'm your O-o-o G. I'm here..the other guys are lllong g-g-gone."
Devin just stares at me.
"I didn't do drugs! I didn't mean to do anything! I..I.."
Devin starts to breakdown crying.
Dev pulls his legs ups and puts his hands over his ears as he rocks back and forth.
"I don't want to die. I promise I'm not trying to hurt myself. Please don't freak out my parents."
My heart keeps hurting watching my best friend like this. It's like he has been slowly crashing before my eyes and all I have been caring about has been my silly British experiment.
"Devin...Devin..deep breaths, my man,...deep breaths..."
I tap his hand again.
"Dev...the jerks are all gone..." I tell him again with total fluency.
