this is unbearable

"So-" I hesitated, "was breakfast good?"

"Same as always," Mikasa said, her stony expression completely unreadable.

that's great <3

i do not know what 'always' is

so if you could just explain so we don't have to walk in complete silence-

"That's- good?"

HOPEFULLY ???

"Is this the shortest way to get to your home?" Mikasa asked.

DO YOU NOT WANT TO SPEND TIME WITH ME THAT BADLY ...

"It's not- we can go a different way if you'd like," I trailed off. "I like walking this way- you get the best view of the harbor."

although that only really applies when you're walking towards it

"This is fine," Mikasa hummed, her head turning every which way to take in the scenery.

"No really- if you want the walk to be faster we don't have to take the scenic detour."

"In case I need to get you on short notice, that's why I was asking," Mikasa explained, "this is fine, I will walk that way back."

oh-

"In that case- let's take the shorter way," I glanced around looking for a side street that would lead us towards it. "Walk back to the harbor this way- the sun will be setting, the water turns golden, it's beautiful."

why miss such a beautiful moment for my convenience

"If you insist-" Mikasa hesitated.

"It would be difficult for you to find it anyway," I frowned, "you don't stop here often, let me show you around." I led her down an alleyway, coming out into a bustling street. "This one is called Mitras- it takes you all the way up the hill, there are a couple of good restaurants along here."

Mikasa nodded in acknowledgment.

she seems focused-

"I live up on the hill-" I pointed up towards my house, a large imposing building that appeared to look over the town below it. "My window is that one," I gestured towards it, "if I'm not there I might be in the library," I pointed slightly to the left at another window.

my father doesn't know about all of this so it would be better to contact me discreetly

"You should avoid asking for me at the door- if you really need to that's fine but if you can avoid it that would be helpful," the two of us began walking up the hill.

"I'll look for another way," Mikasa hummed.

"Sorry, this makes it harder for you doesn't it?"

curse my father for making beautiful women suffer

"It's my job," she shook her head earnestly.

ok but-

"Right," I frowned slightly, picking up the pace. "We should hurry- if you want to see the sunset."

i also want to avoid having to talk to my father-

"We're here," I announced, the two of us stood across the street- a little bit away from the entrance to my house. "Thank you for walking me."

i really could've gone alone-

though i imagine ymir mostly sent someone with me to make sure i wouldn't sneak back

glad she thinks that i can be stealthy <333

"I'll be on my way," Mikasa turned on her heel, beginning to head back down.

"Make sure you catch the sunset!" I waved goodbye, pointing at the road we had switched off of.

now that we're done with that

"You're back," Nifa welcomed me home, taking my jacket off of me.

"I'm back."

"Your Father wanted to speak to you, should I tell him that you're home?" She asked, walking with me as I made my way up the stairs.

that's fun!

i don't want to speak to him

so ....

"I'll go by myself."

no i will not

I walked towards my room, checking behind me to see that Nifa had headed back downstairs.

im sorry- i love you but i will not be talking to my father <3

The heavy office door to his office was shut and I could hear the sound of quiet chatter from within it.

he's talking to someone

i have an excuse for not going to him right away

not wanting to talk to someone is always a valid excuse <3

"-it's just a rumor-" a fragmented bit of the conversation came back to me.

"I'll talk to her about it."

THAT CAN'T BE GOOD-

"I really am worried abou-" the voices got louder as they neared the door, prompting me to sprint down the hall towards my room.

HOW FAST WILL IT TAKE ME TO ACCURATELY PRETEND IM SICK

"It sounds like she's back. I'll talk to her."

NO YOU WILL NOT

"Y/N, I know you're in there," my father spoke up after a brief pause, presumably dismissing the person he was talking to. "No use hiding it."

.

"I'm sick."

COUGH Y/N CHOUGH

"Then as your father," he pushed open the door, frowning slightly, "I should do something to take care of my frail daughter."

NOW ISN'T THE TIME TO BE JOKING

I DON'T LIKE YOU

STOP BEING SARCASTIC WITH ME

"This frail daughter is worried that she might be contagious," I coughed weakly into my arm.

"Stop pretending Y/N."

but what if i didn't ....

"I'm not pretending I'm seriously-"

"I hear that you're dating that pirate girl."

YOU WHAT

"Who told you that?" I shot up from bed. "Wait- no- I'm not dating her- she just-" I stumbled over my words to explain myself.

"The head of the Braun household just spoke to me about it, explain yourself Y/N."

My heart sunk to the floor.
