Chapter 25 (The Vault)
(Matthew)
I stared at the vault that sat across my living room. It was like I could feel it peering into my soul. I was motionless in its sight.
The silence was deafening. The vault haunted me like my past did. I couldn't take my eyes off of it. It held a spell over me that I couldn't shake.
Thunder and lightning cracked outside my window breaking the haunting silence. The lightning lit up the room for a brief moment. The vault continued to capture my full attention as the thunder roared.
I took it as a sign.
(Phillip)
I heard frantic knocking on the opera house doors as rain and thunder made their music of the night. I jogged to the third floor railing overlooking the lobby.
I heard Elise scream which caused me to shudder, my concern grew to a level I didn't know it could. I stood motionless as the knocking continued.
Renee and Elise ran into the lobby. They answered the door, the night guard was supporting the weight of what looked to be a dead man.
Elise helped the night guard support the man's weight. They all hurried towards Elise's room. Once the night guard left I ran to find Elise and Renee.
I barged into Elise's room and saw it was Jonathan who was the unconscious man. He was laying on Elise's bed and she was sitting next to him tending to his wounds.
I felt a burning in the pit of my stomach and my blood boiled at the sight. He was in her bed! Being cared for by her! My angel!
"What happened?" I asked trying to hide my jealousy.
"He got in a wreck just outside of the gates. He seems to be fine, he's just unconscious." Renee explained.
"I see. Why is he here?" I asked mostly because I wished to know why of all room's is he in Elise's.
"This was the closest room, David and Elise couldn't carry him very far." Renee stated.
"Oh. Can I help with anything?" I asked.
'I need to get Elise away from him somehow.' I thought to myself.
"He needs some bandages." Elise spoke softly almost heart broken.
"I'll go get some." I replied quickly and left.
'Does she care for him?! More importantly does she still care for me?!' My thoughts went on a rampage through my mind.
I searched for bandages in the first aid kit that was kept in the kitchen. Renee walked in and started making coffee.
"What was all that about?" She asked tiredly.
"Why of all rooms did it have to be Elise's?!" I yelled.
"I already told you, it was the closest room." Renee snapped.
"Well I don't like it." I huffed.
"I'm sorry dear, but the man is unconscious, he just got in a wreck, the least we can do is take care of him until he wakes up. He's my employee, I feel somewhat responsible for him." Renee spoke while scooping coffee into the coffee maker.
"It's okay that you're jealous dear, it's only natural." I could hear the smirk in her voice.
"I'm not jealous." I replied annoyed.
