Chapter 17 (Dancing And Backstories)
(Phillip)
I saw her trot up the stairs of the stage. I watched as her beautiful curls bounced as she moved. I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. She handed me the script and I carefully looked it over. I would be reading the part of Alexander. Feeling Elise's eyes on me I looked up from the script and into her beautiful blue eyes.
"I'll be reading the part of Rose." She spoke never parting her eyes from mine.
"Yes I'll be reading the part of Alexander. Shall we begin?" I asked softly.
"Sure." She looked down at the script.
"So um, we can start here I guess." I pointed to the section where Elise's character would meet mine.
"Okay." She smiled.
We began to recite the lines. I watched Elise as she would speak. Some lines she would seem so confident and then other she would tense up and allow nerves to get the best of her.
"Ah! I can't do these lines!" She shouted.
"Which ones?" I asked getting up from the stool I was sitting on.
I walked over to her and she pointed to it. The lines were right before the dance scene at the masquerade.
"Okay I'll say my lines and then you recite your's, just put yourself in the Rose's shoes, act how you would in her situation." I explained.
"Okay I'll try." She inhaled deeply and breathed out.
"A lady such as yourself should be out there enjoying the music, and not here alone." I read in character.
"Um, I enjoy my solitude as much as I enjoy music sir." She seemed nervous at first.
"Then would you do me the honor of sharing a dance with me?" I read.
"Possibly I would, but I know not who you are sir." She gained confidence and smiled at me.
"Ah, but that's all the fun of a masque, the mystery of the unknown." I smiled slyly and winked causing her to laugh.
"Well then sir, perhaps I might allow one dance." She giggled smirking.
"Okay so this is the part where we waltz." She broke character handing me the script and pointing to the cue.
"Alright. So do you have a CD for the music?" I asked.
She held it up answering my question.
"So I'll put this in, and do you know this dance?" She asked.
"Yes, not to brag but I'm quite light on my feet." I laughed.
"You're sure you don't mind helping me?" She asked timidly.
"Positive! I enjoy your company, and I said I would help." I smiled and her face lit up at my words.
(Elise)
'He enjoys my company?' My heart fluttered.
I put the CD in the player and began the song. The music filled the air and I began to get swept away by it. I turned around to see Phillip holding his hand out towards me.
"My lady." He bowed smiling.
I carefully placed my hand in his and my heart felt as if it would give out. We walked to the middle of the stage as we held each other's gaze. Placing my free hand on Phillip's shoulder I never realized how tall he was. Suddenly I felt his hand on my waist. I looked up at him to see his face glowing red.
