Chapter 23 (In Love With A Ghost)

(Phillip)

Sunlight soaked the room. I tightened my eyes to prevent any light getting in. I inhaled sharply and my eyes flew open. I felt something next to me causing me to look down.

Elise was laying against my shoulder asleep. She looked like an angel. Her face was the picture of perfection. Her hair was draped over her face.

I didn't want to move an inch just to stay in this moment forever. Reaching out, I delicately moved a strand of hair out of her face. I could hardly resist kissing her, but hesitated to let her sleep.

Suddenly she took a deep breath and her eyes fluttered open in the most exquisite way! Her beautiful eyes sleepily looked at me.

"Good morning my angel." I smiled and delicately placed my hand on her cheek and kissed her forehead.

"Good morning Phillip." She spoke sleepily and smiled and kissed my cheek.

"Would you like to join me for some coffee, my angel?" I asked unable to contain how beautiful she was.

"That would be lovely!" She smiled and yawned.

I stood and then helped her up.

(Elise)

As we walked out of my room I heard footsteps coming our way. Phillip and I looked at each other with shocked expressions.

"Quick! Go into the old dressing room!" I whispered as I shoved him.

He swiftly shut the door to the dressing room. I stood in the hallway unsure of who was coming. Renee walked around the corner.

"Good morning dear!" She greeted me with a hug.

"Good morning!" I giggled.

"Go and get Phillip, I've made breakfast!" She walked off.

"Will do!" I gave a thumbs up.

I let out a huge sigh in relief. I crept over to the dressing room. Opening the door slightly I saw Phillip looking around. I walked in and he looked at me and smiled.

Running up to me he lifted me of the ground spinning, causing me to giggle. He lowered me, holding me closer to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"I'll never get tired of hearing that laugh." He smiled.

I leaned in and crashed my lips on his. Parting my lips from his I looked in his eyes for a moment.

"Come on, Renee made breakfast!" I announced.

"Alright, my angel." He set me on the ground and took my hand in his.

(Later That Day)

Rehearsals were about to start, Phillip and I were sitting in the old dressing room going over scales, using an old dusty piano. Phillip would wince ever time he would play a key that was out of tune. I would giggle every time his face would scrunch up at the sour notes. He would glare at the piano and whisper something under his breath.

He was wearing his mask today, he still wasn't fully comfortable without it. I wished he wouldn't wear it, but I was not going to take it from him. I looked at my phone and noticed the time.

"Crap. Phillip I have to go or I'm going to be late!" I kissed his cheek about to run out the door.

"You'll be amazing, my angel!" He shouted causing me to smile.

(Phillip)

I watched rehearsals from my usual place. Elise of course did amazingly as I knew she would. Matthew was becoming more and more suspicious in my eyes. Something didn't seem right about him.

The way he looked at Elise was unsettling to me. If I could I would replace him in the musical. Which gave me an idea.

(Matthew)

After rehearsals I wanted to try another attempt to ask Elise out again. I followed her out of the theatre and into a hallway I hadn't been in before.

Suddenly I saw her and another guy and his behind a pillar. The guy had a mask covering one half of his face. He and Elise were talking. Elise reached up and took off his mask then he leaned in and kissed her.

'His face, I know his face!' My thoughts yelled.

'It can't be! It's been ten years! How can he still be alive?! Those burns! I caused those burns!' I realized.

Elise and who I now know is Phillip walk off. I leave the opera house unsure of what to do with what I've discovered.
