Chapter 31 (Foreboding Disaster)

(Elise)

Phillip and I had to clean up the mess we made together. I ran to get paper towels and sponges, along with carpet cleaner. I walked back towards Phillip handing him a sponge when my phone went off. It was a text from Jonathan.

"Hey I sent a text to Matthew, and he's coming to rehearsal tomorrow. Just thought I'd let you know, since you were worried! JS." The text read.

I felt a shiver run down my spine. I couldn't explain why, but something felt really wrong. Phillip had gone to cleaning while I was distracted, but he needed to know what news just came.

"Phillip!" I called in quiet horror.

Phillip ran towards me looking me over with a look of concern unhidden on his face.

"What is it, my angel?" He asked in a low tone.

"I got a text from Jonathan. Matthew is coming back tomorrow." I revealed nervously.

"What?" He asked in shock.

"Phillip, I don't want to be near him, let alone rehearse with him!" I exclaimed shaking slightly.

I felt Phillip gently grab my arms trying to calm me down. He crouched down slightly to my eye level, with his eyes piercing mine his grip tightened slightly.

"Elise, my angel I will be right by your side! I won't leave you alone with him, remember I'm the understudy, and the opera ghost! I will do all in my power to keep you away from him." He promised with a stern, yet loving tone.

"Do you trust me?" He asked.

"Yes, with all of my heart!" I kissed his cheek on the unmasked side.

He still wore it occasionally. He mostly wears it when the opera house is full of people; just in case someone saw him. I didn't mind him wearing it if it makes him more comfortable. I pulled away from kissing him and he smirked at me.

"What? Only a kiss on the cheek? I just promised to protect you and that's the thanks I get? No, I think I deserve a real kiss." He smiled and wrapped an arm around my waist and grasped the side of my face with his free hand.

He slowly leaned in and our lips crashed and we kissed for what I wished were an eternity. Slowly he parted his lips from mine and looked in my eyes with a look of hazy love.

"My angel." He spoke in a husky tone as he smirked.

"My Phillip." I smirked back at him.

"Let's continue to clean so you can get to bed, rehearsal is tomorrow, my love." He smiled softly with a glint of nerves in his eyes.

I could tell he was slightly nervous about Matthew coming back tomorrow, but I think his nerves are far less than mine.

"Alright, and maybe you stay with me until I fall asleep?" I asked hopeful.

"Of course, my angel." He smiled as we continued to clean.

After several minutes of cleaning up whipped cream, it was finally all gone. I couldn't help but let out a yawn. I felt arms wrap around my waist. I opened my eyes and saw Phillip staring down at me with an idiotic grin spread across his face.

"Tired?" He asked in a husky tone.

"Yes, very much so." I smiled as I rubbed my eyes.

Phillip then picked my up into his arms and carried me out of the hallway.
