Chapter 29 (Investors?)

(Elise)

Jonathan and I walked out to his car. It was oddly quiet out. I couldn't help but think of how close Jonathan and I were.

"Elise, can I ask you something?" Jonathan asked.

This caught my attention. It felt like my heart was in my throat as it beat rapidly. I could only speculate what his question was.

'Oh gosh... What's his question?!' My thoughts screeched.

"Sure, what's your question?" I asked trying my best not to sound nervous.

Jonathan stopped walking and looked down at me. I felt my heart drop.

"When did you first take violin lessons? I must say, love, you truly blew me away when you first auditioned." He smiled down at me.

"Oh, well I started taking lessons when I was about seven. I know most people start taking a bit earlier than that, but I had such a hard time choosing what instrument I wanted to learn. I chose violin because of what it could do, its beauty, and its sound. Just the instrument as a whole mesmerized me." I got caught up in my answer and forgot that Jonathan was standing in front of me.

He stood remarkably close to me, staring down at me. I hadn't noticed me was holding my hand in both of his until now. I cleared my throat out of nerves.

"Sorry, that was a long answer." I laughed nervously.

"No it was a perfect answer! You're truly a remarkable person, Elise." He smiled.

"Well thank you!" I smiled back and we continued walking.

"You've been a great friend to me when I needed one, Jonathan. Thank you." I spoke sincerely.

"You're welcome, love." He smirked as we finally reached his car.

"By the way, has anyone been in contact with Matthew? I mean, it's just strange that he hasn't shown up to rehearsals lately." I asked looking up at him.

"No, I can't say that I have. I must admit that at first I didn't think anything of it, but now I've become a bit concerned." His brow furrowed as he looked at me.

"What do you think we should do?" I asked.

"Well, perhaps I should call him mayb-" Jonathan was cut off by Mister Farrow and Mister Angotti, who were quickly walking out of the opera house.

They were white as sheets. Renee came out after them running.

"I'm sure it was nothing, Messieurs! The opera house is quite old! Old buildings make noises!" Renee yelled as she continued to run after them.

Mister Farrow ran into me and shoved me backwards and continued to walked quickly. I almost lost my balance and fell, but Jonathan stopped me from falling.

He held onto my shoulders firmly. I looked up at him, and he was scowling at Mister Farrow. I had never seen him look at another person like that.

"Miss Giry! Opera houses do not speak!" Mister Farrow shouted.

'Speak? Phillip....' I concluded with a smirk.

(Phillip)

After Elise left to see what Renee wanted, I quickly ran to my usual opera box to see what was going on. I saw two strange men talking to both Renee and Elise.
