Chapter 21 (Renee Giry)

(Elise)

"Well my plans for tonight were slightly interrupted." Phillip chuckled.

I couldn't help but stare at him. He seemed so free now, like he could fully be himself.

"Well what did you have planned?" I smiled.

"I'm glad you asked, my angel." He smirked.

He ran behind the bushes and rolled out a cart with covered dishes. He then pulled out my chair and gestured me to sit.

I did so and he walked over to the cart. He gracefully lifted the covers from the dishes revealing the most wonderful looking food I'd ever seen.

Once he finished serving the food he sat down and joined me in eating. I couldn't believe how amazing it all was. Not only could Phillip sing like angel, he even cooked like one.

"Oh my gosh, Phillip, this is amazing!" I squealed.

"Thank you, angel. I wouldn't settle on anything less than amazing for you." He smiled causing my heart to skip a beat.

The scars couldn't possibly take away from how handsome he was, or how handsome his smile was. I glanced at his mask sitting on the table.

"So um, there's this masquerade after the opening night of the musical." I nervously twirled a strand of hair through my fingers.

"Oh yes, I heard about that, it's for the cast members and crew right?" He asked.

"Yes, I was uh, wondering if, that is it isn't too much to ask, if you would um..." I rambled on staring at the table.

"What is it my love?" He asked while placing a hand on mine.

"Would you be my date for the masquerade?" I blurted out and squinted my eyes awaiting his response.

"I would love to, but, could we keep my identity a secret just between us?" He asked sheepishly.

"If that is what you wish then of course, just as long as you're my date." I smiled.

"I wouldn't have it any other way." He picked up my hand and placed a soft kiss on it.

'Still haven't gotten used to that!' My mind thought.

"Can you promise me something angel?" Phillip asked catching me off guard.

"Sure, anything." I replied.

"Please, please, keep your on you're guard around that Matthew fellow. Something isn't right about him, he makes me uneasy." Phillip spoke softly but his eyes were fierce.

"I will, I promise. He also gives me this weird feeling, like I can't explain it, but I don't feel safe around him." I revealed.

"I promise I will protect you Elise, my love." He squeezed my hand.

I could tell he meant every word. It caused my heart to swell with joy.

"I love you Phillip." I sighed contently.

"I don't think I could ever grow tired of hearing you say that." He couldn't contain the bright smile and blush that graced his face.

"I love you too, Elise." He blushed.

I looked at the picture on my desk that always sat there staring at me. It always burned a hole through me. A stray tear ran down my face.
