Chapter 16 (Pencils Pens And Socks)

(Elise)

Upon my arrival at the store I took out my list and adjusted my purse on my shoulder. I stood in my warrior stance ready for the battle of shopping. I readied my war face and walked towards the battle field. Grocery shopping wasn't something I always enjoyed doing by myself, it was like a war against me and my ability to remember everything I needed.

I felt as if I needed war paint and parade around on a valiant steed yelling about my freedom. Though I didn't exactly have freedom from needing groceries. My valiant steed was a shopping cart. I giggled at the thought. Just imagine a grocery cart as a valiant steed. Walking through the store I then remembered what Phillip wanted.

"So he said he needed, pencils, pens, and socks." I spoke to myself.

I walked to the section where I could find the first two things and quickly picked those up. As I walked to find socks I saw something out of the corner of my eye that caught my attention. I slowly backed up. It was a massive soft blanket that felt like a touch of heaven. Holding it up to my face feeling the softness and warmth I knew I had to get it for Phillip.

Tossing it into the cart I continued on with my shopping battle. Shopping for food was excessively trivial. Too many brands to choose from, and too many substitutes for actual products. I always got overwhelmed when it comes to buying food. Usually what happens is, I would go to the food area and see the numerous amounts of products and end up buying more than I needed.

This time however was a bit different, I had a list! A list that had what to buy and the brand of that product. I felt one step ahead of the store this time. After several minutes I collected everything I needed and headed to checkout. I began handing things to the checkout lady.

"Did you find everything you needed ma'am?" She asked cheerfully.

"I think so!" I spoke as I continued handing her items.

I handed her the blanket that I got for Phillip and smiled softly hoping he would like it. Paying the lady I was deep in thought until she spoke.

"Have a nice day!" She wished bubbly.

"You too!" I smiled and pushed the cart.

As I walked out to my car I couldn't help but feel that in the battle of store against girl, today girl has won. Driving home I couldn't help but feel smug. The opera house came into vision once more and I parked in my usual place. Today the opera house was once more quiet and uneventful; however tomorrow would be different. I opened the trunk of my car and looked at the vast amounts of bags.

"So many bags to carry." I sighed.

Suddenly the doors to the opera house flew open and I felt the need to hide the bag with Phillip's blanket inside. I wanted it to be a surprise.

"Let me help you with those!" Phillip called out jogging towards me.

"No objections here!" I couldn't help but smile.

He was like my knight in shining armor coming to rescue me from the dreaded groceries. He took six bags at once into the opera house. I made sure he didn't take the one with the blanket, so I took it. We carried all the bags inside in one trip to the kitchen. I then took the bag with the blanket, pencils, pens, and socks and walked over to Phillip.

"I got you this." I spoke blushing fiercely.

(Phillip)

Elise handed me a bag with filled with what looked to be a giant blanket. I took the bag carefully from her and looked at the blanket.
