Chapter 27 (Where's Matthew?)

(Phillip)

Jonathan's voice echoed through my head. I couldn't shake it out. It was agony. I paced all through the attic. Spotting the stairs that led to the roof I chose to go out and get some air.

"This girl will be the death of me! I love her, but I'm still a ghost in society. Nothing more than a creature that stalks in the shadows." I spoke to myself as I continued pacing.

I stared off into the distance as a cool breeze filled my lungs. I let it out and suddenly I heard footsteps behind me. Quickly turning around I saw Elise standing there with tears slightly brimming her eyes.

I felt something run down my face. Touching my cheek I felt it was a tear. I quickly wiped it away hoping she wouldn't notice.

"How is Jonathan?" I almost cringed as I spoke his name.

"He, um, he's fine." She sniffed and wiped away some stray tears.

I felt my heart break at the sight. I turned away and walked to the railing of the roof.

"I heard him sing to you, as he, as he
h-held you." I could barely get those words out.

"It meant nothing, Phillip. He's just a good friend. I-I had a nightmare about the night my pa-" Her voice caught in her throat.

I turned to look at her and caught her gaze. Her eyes were filled with sorrow.

"You had a nightmare about your parents?" I asked solemnly.

She nodded her head. She looked to the ground, and before I could try and comfort her she fell to her knees and began sobbing.

I quickly got to the ground next to her and pulled her into my arms. She clinched to my shirt. I wrapped my arms tightly around her.

"I-I promise, Ph-Phillip, you're the only one I love." She cried.

I hushed her and brushed my fingers through her hair.

"I know, I never should have doubted, I was blind by my jealously. I love you, my angel." I spoke as I recounted her words.

I rocked her in my arms trying to comfort her. I suddenly got an idea of how to calm her down. Picking her up in my arms I carried her down to the kitchen.

I sat her on the countertop and started getting out ingredients. She looked at me as she wiped her eyes.

"What are you doing?" She asked confusedly.

"We are going to make cookies." I smirked as I continued gathering ingredients.

"Cookies?" She smiled slightly.

(Elise)

"Correct, Renee used to make them for me when I would get sad, which was quite often." He half-smiled.

I watched as he rushed through the kitchen to find everything. I got up from countertop and walked over to help him.

We mixed the ingredients together in a bowl. I stirred the dough until my arms grew tired. I felt Phillip come up behind me, he grabbed my hand and helped me stir.

I felt butterflies in my stomach. We finally put the cookies in the oven. Phillip turned to look at me with an expression on his face I wasn't sure of.

"Are you going to be okay at rehearsal tonight?" He asked softly.

"I think I'll be alright." I replied hesitantly.
