Chapter 30 (What To Do With Matthew)

(Phillip)

I couldn't shake the feeling that the owner of the car was about to return to the opera house soon. I didn't tell Elise what I saw fearing I would only scare her.

After dinner, Elise and I walked hand in hand up to my lair. I wanted to show her the music I was working on. Opening the door for her, I couldn't help but watch her beautiful curls bounce as she walked.

I followed behind her almost hypnotized by her. No not almost, I was completely hypnotized by her. She held me captive.

"Elise." I spoke in a husky tone.

She turned around quickly with her wide blue eyes piercing through my soul.

"Yes?" She asked as she stared at me intently.

After only a few moments I couldn't resist any longer. I took her in my arms and crashed my lips onto her's. She was shocked at first but then melted into my arms. I released her from the kiss and she looked at me with a confused smile.

"What was that for?" She asked as she twirled her hair exquisitely.

"I could not resist! You are the most beautiful thing I've ever laid eyes upon!" I smiled and kissed her forehead.

I knew Matthew would most likely return. So I needed to find a way to protect her from him. Something about him was off, I couldn't say for sure what it was. He seemed severely disturbing.

(Elise)

Phillip seemed tense, I was unsure why. He led me to an instrument I had not seen before and allowed me to sit first. He looked at me with an expression I was unable to read.

"Elise, do you remember how I write music?" He asked nervously.

I nodded my head in response. He quickly grabbed a folder and sat down next to me on the bench.

"Well, I wasn't sure when to unveil this to you, but I have written you a song. Or I should say I have written several songs." He laughed out of nerves.

He opened the folder full of songs written for me. I didn't know what to say, I could only blush.

"All I ask is that you would consider singing at least one for me." His eyes pleaded like a puppy's would.

I couldn't resist his request. I delicately took the folder from his hands as he eyed me carefully. Flipping through the sheet music, one stuck out to me in particular.

"This one, but could you play the tune a little first so I can get the feel of it?" I asked timidly handing him the music.

"Anything for you, my angel." He smiled and took the music from my hands as our fingers brushed against each other's.

I blushed once more and looked at the ground. He set the sheets on the instrument's music stand and cracked his knuckles. He brushed the keys lightly then began to play. I was hypnotized by the first note.

It sounded like a symphony! I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I became so enraptured in the music. I leaned into Phillip's side as he played.

(Phillip)

I played trying my best to impress her. I felt her lean into my side and I couldn't help the butterflies that attacked my stomach at that very moment. As I played I used only my left hand to play and gracefully wrapped my right arm around her and continued to played the instrument with both hands.
