I don't own the phantom of the opera!!!! only the character I created!!!!
Chapter 3 (Utter Terror Audition)
(Renee)
I left Elise to settle in her room, 'I know exactly what she's going through.' I thought to myself thinking back and remembering the ones I lost, looking at a picture of me and them on my desk. My thoughts were quickly interrupted by Phillip barging through my door.
"Hello Phillip dear! Enjoying the empty opera house since it's everyone's day off?" I asked looking up from my paperwork, I pulled down my reading glasses and smiled.
"It's not really empty thought is it? Who is the girl you brought to live here?" Phillip questioned impatiently.
"Why so curious Phillip?" I asked with my smile widening even more.
"I have a right to know since I live here too Renee." He stated proudly and calmed down a bit.
I knew he always got nervous when new people arrived at the opera house, with good reason. This time however was different, it wasn't the same type of nervousness.
"Well dear, she recently lost her parents in a car accident. I was really good friends with her parents, and I am her godmother. She has come to live with us." I replied getting slightly misty eyed. Phillip in response looked to his feet, but soon looked back up at me with a look of worry.
"Relax dear! She doesn't know about you, yet." I assured him.
He looked relieved but then got defensive, "Renee! She can't know about me." He said sternly. "Why ever not? She will find out about you eventually, I mean she is going to be living here." I retorted.
"She just can't!" He yelled angrily, but his anger subsided quickly into sorrow. "Someone like her could never bear to look at me." He said taking of the white half mask he found in props from a musical when he was younger, revealing his half scarred face caused by the terrible injury from his childhood.
"It's really not that bad sweetheart, please rethink the whole 'she can never know about me' thing." I comforted and tried to reason with him.
"Alright Renee, I'll rethink it." he responded with a half smile and put back on his mask, and started to walk out the door.
"Oh and don't forget about the auditions tomorrow Phillip!" I shouted.
"When have I ever forgotten?" he questioned with a smirk on his face. "Just remember to keep my box open." He added with a wink and left.
(Elise)
I practice all afternoon, getting exasperated with myself. 'I hate Being a perfectionist.' I thought to myself as I opened my bedroom door, my stomach growled fiercely. 'Oh my gosh I'm hungry!' I headed towards the kitchen since it was about time for dinner. I almost got lost in what seemed almost like a labyrinth, I really hoped I'd get used to this place. I eventually found the kitchen and to my surprise Renee was there cooking.
"Oh! hello, I was hungry so I decided I'd try to find the kitchen." I laughed awkwardly.
"Oh it's fine Elise, I'm just making some dinner, would you like to join me?" she asked gesturing to what she was doing.
"I'd love to!" I accepted her offer and went to sit at the table.
"So how's practicing going?" She asked while still preparing the meal.
"Not as good as I hoped." I responded reluctantly with gently slamming my head on the table. "I'm sure you'll do great!" she reassured me.
After we ate it was getting quite late in the night, I really enjoyed talking to Renee. She was helping me cope with the loss of my parents. I decided to head back to my room and get some sleep before the audition tomorrow morning, once I got back to my room I put on my pajamas and got in bed. I kept tossing and turning, feeling sick to my stomach with nerves about tomorrow, I had a terrible case of stage fright.
(The next day)
I woke up the next morning with puffy eyes from lack of sleep, 'No amount of coffee is gonna help this.' I got up and got ready for the audition, and tried to cover up the dark circles under my eyes. 'Please don't get sick, please don't get sick!' I repeated to myself. I grabbed my violin and headed out of my room, and soon got to the lobby. There were so many people there to audition with a variety of instruments, this didn't help my nerves at all.
I saw Renee walk down the stairs, she stopped where the stairs started to split into two. "Hello everyone! The Cassation Opera House welcomes you! We are happy to have such an outcome of people. We will start with violins, and remember just have fun with this!" She announce cheerfully. She walked down the rest of the stairs and the two doors just below the stairs were opened and people flooded through, I unpacked my violin in the theatre chair on the front row right in front of the stage. My heart was about to eat out of my chest!
"Okay first up is Elise Daae!" I heard the conductor call from a list. 'Oh crap!' I began to shake nervously, but I looked up to one of the opera boxes. 'There's someone up there!' I thought, I saw a figure up there, but my thoughts are interrupted.
"Ms. Daae?" I heard the conductor call.
"Oh yes! that's me sorry!" I walked up onto the stage and put my music on the stand, I felt every eye on me. I took a deep breath and began to play, the notes flew from my fingers and my bow flew across the strings.
I finished with the piece and my bow flew off the strings and I held it in the air as I breathed heavily, I heard applause erupt from the audience and I sighed with relief. I curtsied and walked off stage, and cleaned the rosin off my strings and packed up my violin. I felt sick to my stomach and ran out of the theatre to find the nearest bathroom just in case, but I stopped in the hallway just outside of the bathroom. No one was around, which I thought was strange and it started to creep me out. I started to walk off but I stopped dead in my tracks when I heard an angelic voice sing,
"Brava! Brava!" I looked around but saw no one. I shook my head and ran back to the theatre.
Hello Hello!!! just finished this!! I'm so inspired and I'm on a writing binge! So funny story about this chapter, I recently had an audition and so the whole stage fright, feeling like she was going to be sick, heart pounding and trying to find a restroom, yeah that all happened. Except for the whole angelic voice singing to me, so yeah! hope you enjoy! yours truly, MW.
