Chapter 6 (Haunted)

(Elise)

The sun slowly crept through my windowsill, it made it's way on my face, my eyes that were shut from sleeping squint even tighter. I began to stretch my arms and sat up, letting out a yawn.

"I haven't slept that great in years!" I exclaimed groggily. I opened my eyes, I looked around and remembered yesterday.

"Wait a minute, I fell asleep out in the garden! How did I get back to my room?" I questioned in shock.

"I'm still in the clothes I wore yesterday! Something's not right here!" I declared.

I was about to get up out of bed when I saw something, a rose placed on the pillow next to me. My eyes grew wide, I held one hand over my mouth and grabbed the rose with the other.

"I need to talk to Renee!" I sprang out of bed and carefully placed the rose in the vase on my bedside table.

I quickly showered and changed into jeans and a sweatshirt. I put my damp hair in a bun and ran out the door, I had forgotten that the cast for the newest musical were practicing today. They weren't practicing with the symphony so I didn't make it a priority to remember, my lack of memory would be my downfall.

I ran to find Renee to talk with her, I was dazed and wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I ran into someone and we both fell in opposite directions, the other person let out a startled scream. I looked over to see them,.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry." I squeaked.

"Who is this pitiful person?! If you can even call this rat a person!" She cackled.

"I-I-Im so sorry! I didn't see you, I-I was just trying to-" I tried to explain but she interrupted.

"I-I-I, I can't understand you with all that stuttering little rat! Conductor Jonathan!!! Renee!!! Who is this piece of trash and what on earth is she doing here?!" She whined wanting answers.

"Regina! Watch your tone of voice and name calling, for there are eyes everywhere in the opera house! It would be unfortunate for something awful to happen to you before your next performance! This is Elise Daae, she is the new lead violinist, and my goddaughter, she lives here now. Also..." Renee paused for a moment and looked down at me and back at Regina.

"She has his favor." she added, Regina's face grew as white as a sheet of paper.

"We wouldn't want a repeat of last year would we?" Renee crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow with her question.

Regina shook her head, "No ma'am!" She blurted frantically.

"Good! Now go about what you were doing, Elise follow me to my office." Renee said sternly. The conductor Jonathan Stark, the one who called me up for my audition quickly walked towards me and helped me up.

"You alright?" He asked with a small smile.

"Yes, thank you!" I replied, his smile grew bigger and he walked off into the theatre. I ran to follow Renee to her office, my thoughts were everywhere. How did I get back to my room last night? Who put the rose on my pillow? What's with the music that seems to have no source?

What was Renee talking about when she said there are eyes everywhere in the opera house? What did she mean I have his favor? 'I've got to get to the bottom of this!' I thought to myself. We got to Renee's office, she opened the door and gestured for me to go in. I walked in first and she followed soon after, shutting the door behind her.
