Techno POV

Techno carefully packed up their supplies, making sure they had everything before they were planning to leave. He glanced towards Wilbur, who was strumming his guitar quietly.

He sighed, glad they were alone for the time being. He swung the bag over his shoulder, approaching the brunette cautiously as not to startle him. There was something he wanted to talk to him about.

"Sounds good Wil." he smiled, making the younger look up.

"Oh thanks." Wilbur grinned, pausing. "What is it?" he questioned, watching as Techno looked at his feet.

"There's something I want to talk to you about." Techno hesitated, already knowing his reaction. Wilbur nodded, insisting he continue without interruption. "I don't think Phil should go with us."

"What?!" Wilbur exclaimed, jumping to his feet. "What do you mean?"

"All he's done since he joined us is cause you panic attacks." the older pointed out. "And he's one more mouth to feed. I just don't trust him! He's only-"

"He hasn't done anything wrong!" the brunette retorted, swinging his guitar over his back. "He has no one Techno! You can't force him to leave just because he's not used to us!"

"Wilbur we were fine on our own before. We don't need him and I'm sure he can find someone else." Techno tried to make him understand. Why did he always have to make everything difficult? Couldn't he understand that he was just trying to look out for the two of them? "Besides he's already looking for that woman. I'm sure he-"

"But what if he doesn't! He'll be all alone." he shook his head, as if he couldn't bear to think of it. "That's worse than dying Techno."

It was true. Both of them had been there at the start of the apocalypse. Alone was death in itself. To have no one to rely on, to have no one to connect to. Techno closed his eyes, remembering how he had almost lost himself. And he would have... if Wilbur hadn't found him.

"I don't trust him Wil." Techno sighed.

"You don't have to. Just don't leave him behind." Wilbur pleaded, his eyes glassy. It was clear that he had grown to like Phil, far more than Techno ever did.

Suddenly a voice came from behind them, kind but shaky. "If you want me to go, I will."

The brothers turned towards him, swallowing. Did he hear everything?

"Phil you don't-" Wilbur began, taking a step towards him.

"If Techno thinks it's best then I will." Phil smiled softly, betraying his eyes. He wanted to stay. Techno could see it in his blue eyes.

Techno hesitated for a moment, for once seeing him as a friend. But then it all came back. What if he hurt them? He could never forgive himself if something happened to Wilbur. He took a deep breath, ignoring Wilbur's hopeful eyes.

"I think it's best... if you go."

Wilbur gasped, his eyes wide. "Tech-"

"Wilbur it's okay. I'll go." Phil reassured him. Grabbing his stuff, he turned on his heel. He waved, "I wish you boys the best. I hope you survive this hell."

Wilbur tried to go after him, but Techno was quick to grab his arm with an iron grip. It could only a minute for Wilbur to realize that Techno wasn't letting go.

Techno watched after man, a wave of guilt hitting him.

He had gotten what he wanted. So why did it feel like he lost something?
