Tommy POV

The days passed by quickly, but everyday seemed to be the same to Tommy. The group moved from campsite to campsite, resting in between. Tommy barely did anything, keeping to himself as much as possible. He didn't want to be a burden and he didn't want to connect with them.

All he could ever think about was Sam. Wilbur was the only one he ever spoke to and even that was rare. Tommy was just so scared to connect again. After losing Tubbo and Ranboo and then Sam, he wasn't sure he could handle losing anyone else.

But that didn't stop Wilbur from trying. Nothing worked, until one night Wilbur brought out his guitar.

The two were sitting around the fire, waiting for Phil and Techno to return with firewood. It had taken a lot to convince Techno that they would be fine on their own for a little bit, but Wilbur managed.

As soon as Tommy caught sight of the instrument, he couldn't help but look away from the fire. "You play guitar?" he questioned softly. He thought of Tubbo playing his ukulele.

Wilbur smiled, his face lighting up at Tommy's voice. "Yeah, my mom taught me." Tommy nodded, looking back into the fire. "You want to hear something?" Wilbur continued, hoping to get the boy to open up even more.

The blonde glanced back towards the older. "Sure."

Wilbur played a few cords, attempting to find the right one. He took a deep breath but beginning to play.

"I'm sure that your heart's in the right place

I'm sure that you break more than I make.

My mother says you're up your own arse

Like stagehand, a puppet show

But hell, what does she know?

You're so appealing

We can barely see your hair receding

You're a man of few needs

But the sleep thoughts are deep

Sounds as good with slurred speech as I do when I'm sober."

Tommy watched his fingers, a growing smile spreading on his face. There was something about the song that was so uplifting. Whether it was the way Wilbur sang it or the tune, Tommy didn't know. But he loved it.

"He's always right, you're never right

Get me out of here

It's 'cause you're scared

You're just scared of the future

He's got a bus, he's got a bike

Get me out of here

And you're just scared

You're just scared of the future."

Tommy closed his eyes, relaxing for just a moment. For just a moment, he pretended that everything was okay. Maybe he was at a concert,  listening to his favorite band jam out.  Maybe he was actually happy for just a second.

"I guess this makes you right

The boys must be lucky that you didn't try out here tonight

'Cause you're so relievin'

You're like a breath of fresh air on a warm summer evening

It's up to you right, citing the night

Is it over both eyes, to make sure the song does."

Wilbur paused for a moment, allowing the guitar to ring out, "Wait." Then he shouted, "Woo!"

Tommy burst out laughing, missing Wilbur's smile. He had never heard a song like this and he loved every minute of it.

"He's always right, you're never right

Get me out of this

'Cause you're just scared

You're just scared of the future

He's got a bus, he's got a bike

Get me out of this

Now you're just scared

You're just scared of the future

You're just scared

You're just scared of the future

You're just scared

You're just scared of the future."

Wilbur allowed the instrument to ring out before looking at Tommy. The blonde began clapping, a bright smile on his face. The older grinned, bowing before him. "Thank you, thank you."

"You're amazing." Tommy commented, surprised to find a smile on his face.

The brunette smiled, "Thanks." He took a deep breath before building up his courage. "Can I ask you something?" Tommy shrugged before nodding for him to continue. "Do you think you'll ever trust us?"

Tommy bit his lip, trying to find the right answer. "I don't know." he admitted, running a hand through his hair. "I don't want to connect... I don't want to lose you too..."

"You shouldn't look at it like that." Wilbur interjected. "You'll never find friendship if you look at it like that."

Tommy couldn't help but feel annoyed at his words. Wilbur just didn't understand. If he was going to be cut off, it was his choice. It was easier that way. "Maybe I don't want to find friendship." he mumbled. Besides, he couldn't move on that quickly... he just couldn't.

The brunette sat up a little straighter. "That's a pretty miserable life."

"Well it's less painful!" Tommy exclaimed, jumping to his feet. "I'm not strong enough... I'm just not." Before Wilbur could say anything, he stalked off. Brushing past Techno and Phil with no signs of stopping.

He just needed time to think before it became too much.
