Tommy POV
Tommy still couldn't understand it. Why was this man helping him? Why didn't he leave him to die, like every other person? He sighed, leaning more into Sam. He just had to trust him. Maybe he could help him get back to Ranboo and Tubbo before they killed each other.
"How long will it take for this damn ankle to heal?" the blonde groaned.
"I can't say for sure, I'm assuming in a few weeks." Sam replied, searching ahead. A smile appeared on his face, seemingly having spotted something. "Looks like you'll be able to rest in a moment."
Tommy turned his head, spotting what Sam was talking about. A sigh of relief escaped his mouth, the thought of resting sounding too good to be true. His ankle was throbbing, even with most of his weight off of it. "Thank God." he muttered under his breath.
The building was old, vines covering about half of it. Lights hung loosely from the ceiling, sparks still dripping every once in a while. The old sign was barely standing, the old numbers practically peeling off. It was an old gas station, that was sure.
They approached the entrance, Sam's hand on his pistol. "Stay here for a second, watch my back." he murmured, pushing the glass door open.
Tommy bit his lip, wishing the man was still beside him. He hated the feeling of being completely alone. He took a deep breath, Sam wouldn't leave him. Sam would come back. Leaning against the wall, his eyes surveyed the surroundings.
"Tommy!"
Tommy jumped, his heart immediately pounding. Was something wrong? Was he bit? His panic subsided at the sight of the man walking towards him, his eyes gleaming in excitement. Not terror, the blonde noted.
"What?"
"I found a truck!" he exclaimed. "We could fix it! Then you won't have to walk everywhere."
"That's great." Tommy smiled, glad of the discovery. He wasn't sure how much more pain he could take.
Sam wrapped an arm around the boy, helping him walk into the store. Tommy leaned all his weight on the older, biting his lip to keep from crying out in pain.
The man lead him to the back of the store, past all the wrappers and old shelves that littered the place. Someone had clearly been here. But a lot of time had passed, based on the dust that blanketed everything.
Opening a back door, they arrived an old garage. An old truck was parked inside, rust dripping from every angle. Tools were scattered around, in no apparent order. Someone had clearly gotten frustrated. Not that Tommy was one to judge.
"Does it run?" he questioned, afraid to get his hopes up.
"I hope so." Sam commented, helping Tommy to rest on the ground. The blonde sighed in relief, glad his ankle could finally rest. He watched the man climb into the driver's seat, leaving the door open behind him. He turned the key, urging the engine to life. It roared for a moment before coughing and falling silent again.
"Well scratch that idea." Tommy rolled his eyes.
Sam climbed out of the truck, walking around and opening the hood to reveal the engine. "Maybe we can fix it."
"Do you know something about trucks? Because I certainly don't." the blonde scoffed.
Sam ran a hand through his hair, confusion filling his eyes. "We can just make it up as we go..."
"We're better off just walking. At least that way, we might actually get somewhere."
"Where are you headed anyway?" the man questioned, sitting beside him in defeat.
"I need to find my friends." Tommy explained, thinking back to what Tubbo had said. "I need to find Tubbo's uncle."
"Do you know where that might be?" Sam asked. "I'll take you there. I was planning to meet up with my friends before I ran into you."
Tommy bit his lip, the sudden realization hitting him. He had no idea where his best friends were heading. What if he never saw them again? What if he lost them forever? "I don't know."
Sam nodded understandingly, grabbing the blonde's hand. "Well we'll find out. I won't leave you until we find them."
