26| Down on one knee

"This... can't be.." Namjoon whispered, mouth agape in shock.

Taehyung and Jeongguk stared at each other's eyes, their hearts beating widely.

They had the rings in their hands.

They really had the rings that belonged to some lovers 284 years ago, that turn out to be themselves in their past lives, in their hands.

Taehyung was the first to pry his eyes away from Jeongguk's, to look down to the delicate silver jewelry with a blue diamond stone in his hand. "I hope this is not some joke, RM."

"Yeah, for real, I have my doubts too. If this turns out to be a prank, I'm gonna burn you down," Jeongguk grumbled, as he examined the ring in his hand too.

Namjoon only chuckled. "I promise you, this is not a joke. Put the rings on."

Taehyung was about to put the ring on his finger, when Jeongguk's voice interrupted him. "I'm jealous."

"What?" The blond questioned.

"I want to put a ring on you," Jeongguk smirked and Taehyung, just like pretty much always, began blushing. Still he brushed Jeongguk's comment off with a scoff and a shaking head.

"Bunny, keep your thoughts to yourself," Namjoon grumbled, turning annoyed. He was impatient to find out if the rings work exactly the way the legends described.

"Why again are you here? If this is really between us and our past-life-us, shouldn't you, like I don't know, leave?"

"Jeongguk," Taehyung warned softly, giving him a look to not make an unnecessary scene. Jeongguk just sighed.

Namjoon's patience was really running short. "Fine, I'm waiting outside," he agreed, in hope for the two to act quicker and finally get done with this.

Once Namjoon was outside, Taehyung and Jeongguk's eyes locked again.

"I'm not really sure what happens if we put the rings on."

"It could be a trap and if we put them on, we might explode or something similar happens," Jeongguk said, shuddering at his own thoughts.

"I doubt that," Taehyung mumbled.

Jeongguk chuckled, doubting it too. "I mean, I can imagine they want to get rid of me."

"Don't say that. I would never let that happen," Taehyung responded, sincerely.

Jeongguk smiled. "Should we put the rings on?"

The older nodded.

"Okay, then," Jeongguk mumbled and put his ring on. It fit perfectly, as if made just for him to wear and following the legend, it seems like it was.

He looked up to Taehyung, who hasn't put his ring on yet. "What's wrong?"

A soft shrug of his shoulders and a blush on his cheeks was the only response Jeongguk got from Taehyung. Until, he spoke up. "You wanted to put it on me, right?"

Jeongguk froze, his heart acting up. "Do you know what you're doing to me?" He asked, walking towards Taehyung, who handed him the ring.

"Maybe I do, otherwise, you can just show me.." Taehyung purred, wrapping his arms around Jeongguk's neck, while the younger had his resting on his waist.

A glint appeared in Jeongguk's eyes, before he leaned to Taehyung to give him a soft, short kiss on the lips. "The things I want to do to you right now..." his voice literally went 2 octaves deeper and it had Taehyung shivering, goosebumps forming on his skin, as Jeongguk rasped these words against his lips.

He giggled lightly and let go of Jeongguk, staring into his purple eyes. "Here." He handed him his ring.

Jeongguk snickered. "Do you want me to go down on one knee, too?"

Flustered, Taehyung quickly shook his head. "It's okay like that," he spoke, unsteady voice revealing how that comment had made him feel all mushy inside.

Chuckling, Jeongguk took ahold of Taehyung's delicate hand, that in contrast to his own looked way smaller, although they were about the same size. He placed a soft kiss on the back of the older's hand, before taking the ring and sliding it onto his ring finger.

"Thank you, bun," Taehyung giggled, but it died down when he looked back to Jeongguk. "Your eyes! They're normal again!"

Jeongguk furrowed his eyebrows and as he looked at Taehyung, he noticed the same applied to the older. "Yours are normal too."

"So, it worked," a new voice interrupted them
again, "You really took your time in here," RM spoke again.

Jeongguk rolled his eyes, annoyance dripping from his gaze, that Namjoon gladly ignored.

"There's a soul connection between you and since you found the missing pieces, it's completed. You're going to feel normal, as if nothing changed, but once one of you is in danger or pain, the other is gonna feel it."

"You mean, if I hit myself, Tae is going to feel it too?"

"You ask a lot of questions for someone who doesn't like listening to me," Namjoon snickered, to which Jeongguk glared a little.

"We're here to get answers, because all of a sudden our eyes change in colour and we find out to be some 280 years old reincarnated lovers whose destiny it is to protect each other. So, just please answer," Taehyung chided, voice stern. For some reason, he disliked the way Namjoon talks or responds to Jeongguk.

Namjoon said nothing, and ignored Taehyung. But he answered Jeongguk's question. "You won't exactly feel each other's pain, you will just know if the other is danger. Like, real danger. Also, sometimes your feelings can get involved too, if they're really strong. Lust, jealousy, longing, love- every strong feeling their is that is caused because of the other can cause your inner powers to run wild," he explained.

"Thanks." Taehyung took Jeongguk's hand in his. "Then this is cleared. We can leave, right?" He didn't even wait for an answer as he already walked towards the entrance, Jeongguk's hand tightly clasped in his. He wanted to leave, because he knows they were done now and if they really are, the next thing would be Jeongguk's punishment and-

"Stop," Namjoon called out, making the lovers stop midway.

"What now?" Taehyung asked, voice wavering.

Jeongguk's been quiet this whole time, eyes lingering on Taehyung. For some reason, the way Taehyung really wanted to suddenly leave intrigued him. He liked the idea that Taehyung still would choose him - the villain- over the other heroes.

"Bunny should receive his deserved punishment."
