30| Happy with you
"Let's bring everything inside. I want to drive us somewhere," Jeongguk told as he drove into the driveway and halted.
"Is it somewhere special? Should I wear something else-
"You don't have to. You could go to a wedding in sweats and still look the best," Jeongguk complimented, to which Taehyung rolled his eyes. "That's a little exaggerated, don't you think?"
"Not at all," the ravenette retorted, leaning forward to give his boyfriend a kiss on the lips. "C'mon. I really want to take you somewhere."
"You're making me curious as hell," Taehyung mumbled with a bright smile as he looked to Jeongguk in the driver's seat.
The ravenette smiled too, reaching out for Taehyung's hand to grab it and intertwine their fingers. He shortly looked away from the street to look at Taehyung, his smile only widening when he turned back to the road.
"I love you, do you know that?"
Taehyung looked at him surprised, his heart making a jump. "I know, you tell me everyday," he brushed it off, but the way he said it so sudden and so normal still had him off guard. "I love you, too."
Jeongguk's thumb began drawing circles on the back of Taehyung's hand. The soft touch caressing his heart. "You are the most important thing in my life. I don't know what I'd be doing without you. You're literally the only thing keeping me sane and I'm so fucking scared of not having you around me someday again. I'm.. scared I'll lose control when you're not here."
Taehyung was surprised by the younger's words, tears burning in the back of his eyes all of the sudden. "Don't say that, bun. You're doing it by yourself, you're not dependent on me."
Jeongguk chuckled. "I always depended on you, Tae. Ever since we were younger, I only felt happy when you were there. When you weren't around, it felt like... like a damn piece of me was missing. The piece of happiness, joy.. love. I felt all of that only with you."
Taehyung took a shallow breath, squeezing Jeongguk's hand tightly. The younger's words overwhelmed him a little bit. "That's halfway true. Ever since we were kids, we basically only had each other... after everything that happened with our parents, I couldn't even picture a day without you in my life, though it wasn't romantically before. You were and will forever be my number one person, the only one I need in my life. It has been like that ever since I held you the first time in my little arms when you were a baby."
Jeongguk's expression turned soft. Sometimes he forgets about that Taehyung is a year older than him and has been with him since literally day one.
"Look how the tables have turned. You won't even be able to lift me up now."
Taehyung gasped, pulling his hand away from Jeongguk's. "Are you trying to dare me?"
Jeongguk laughed. "Do you think you can carry me? I'm not that light-
"Do you think I'm weak? I've given you more blue eyes than you can count!" Taehyung crossed his arms. Then a thought hit him so suddenly. "You've never hit Vante back though. Why?"
Jeongguk thought a little. It's not that he doesn't know why, it's just he doesn't know how to tell what's hidden.
"While you were my enemy, you were also my only kind of friend, besides, you know, Taehyung-you. Vante-you was next to Taehyung-you the only person I liked to talk to and spend time with. I couldn't hurt Vante."
Despite the cute nicknames Jeongguk gave his first and second identity, Taehyung looked at him in surprise. "Really?"
"I told you I liked hanging out with Vante-you. That was true."
Taehyung went silent. It's true that Jeongguk never speaks to other people in school, or outside of school besides Taehyung. In contradiction, Taehyung had a lot of friends, none he could tell secrets to, but enough to hang out with in school, when Jeongguk decided to ditch again. But all in all, Jeongguk was the only one. Has always been.
"You know what made me upset?" Jeongguk suddenly asked and Taehyung's full attention shifted back to him. The ravenette had his eyes still trained to the street, which reminded Taehyung shortly that they were driving somewhere he doesn't know to.
"What?"
"When you told Jeongguk-me that you like Bunny-me, I got jealous."
Taehyung tried. He really tried to stiffen his laugh, but he bursted out laughing in full volume. "What?!" He asked in disbelief. "You were jealous o-of yourself?"
Jeongguk didn't find it as funny and grumbled a low curse under his breath, regretting having told Taehyung. At least he got the blond's sweet laughter as a reward.
"Look, Bunny, isn't me. I'm Jeon Jeongguk and Bunny is just the mask I'm hiding behind. I didn't want you to like my mask, I wanted you to like me. Bunny is just the way I can let everything out, that I can't when I'm just Jeongguk. I thought a lot about it, I think I understand myself more."
Taehyung's lips formed a warm smile. "I'm proud of you, Gguk."
Jeongguk's heart jumped hearing that.
"I just want to... close it all up. I don't want to live in pain, I want to be happy with you."
Taehyung was about to say something, when something outside caught his eyes. Not only something, but everything. They were in their old neighborhood, the place that started it all, caused the two the most pain. Taehyung felt his stomach churn. "J-Jeongguk.."
"I know... I thought.. to end it all, we need to start by the root."
The car halted in front of two familiar houses right next to each other. Tears formed in Taehyung's eyes and so did in Jeongguk's, as they looked at their old homes.
"Nothing changed," Taehyung whispered.
Both weren't sure what they felt, anger, rage, hate, mixed with the salty taste of sadness and abandonment.
Jeongguk squeezed Taehyung's hand. "Do you want to take a walk with me?"
