I was sitting next to Kagome. She had not moved or showed any sign of life yet, and it has been three days.
Shiraku, Miroku, and Sango were walking into the cave now. I knew what they were going to try and do, but I won't let them. They are not going to touch Kagome without getting through me first.
"Inuyasha." Miroku said, they all stood in a line in front of the door.
"No, I know what's going to happen, but I won't let you." I stood up to face them, standing in front of Kagome. "Not without getting through me first."
Sango looked as though she was fighting the tears, I knew she didn't want to do this as much as I didn't. It's the right thing to do, but I can't seem to let her go. I did not have the physical ability to let Kagome go, I could not except the fact that she was gone and there was no way of bringing her back.
"Inuyasha, you're making this harder than this has to be." Miroku took a step foward.
"I-I can't let her go." My brain seemed to be clogged up, I couldn't think and it was hard to breath. This always happened when I though of Kagome being..
"Inuyasha-" Sango started but her voice cracked and she had to stop to make the tears stay in her eyes.
"Please, don't make me do this." I pleaded. "I don't know what to do. Please just- I-she needs more time."
"I have her two days." Shiraku stepped forward. "She's gone, you need to accept that to move on with your life."
"No!" I snapped. "She's not.. She's fine! She's gonna be okay, this will all be over and we'll all be okay."
"I didn't want to have to do this but you leave me no choice." She lifted up her hand and I went into a defensive stance.
"No!" Miroku shouted and grabbed her arm. "Look, Inuyasha we'll give you five minutes. Say your goodbyes, we will be waiting outside for you." He turned to Sango.
She was sobbing in the corner silently, and her body trembled. Miroku hugged her.
"Why don't we run and grab Shippo? We can have a proper burial." He said leading her out of the cave, Shiraku following.
They were right. It was time to put Kagome to rest. The smell of rotting flesh had filled the room.
I turned back to Kagome and fell to my knees. "Please wake up." I whispered, a tear falling down my cheek. "Kagome." She did not react. "Kagome!" I shouted, shaking her gently. "Kagome!" I shook her harder, but her body limply moved on the ground.
I took my hand away trembling aggressively. "Kagome." I buried my face into her stomach and sobbed.
I can't believe it, I don't want to believe it. I felt reality hit me hard in the face. "She's dead." I whispered in between sobs. She's truly dead and it's my fault. I should of just killed Kikyo when she was standing right in front of me. Right fucking in front of me!
Rage surged through my body, I grasped Kagome's wet shirt from my tears. My heart ripped in two and my mind was a scramble. My stomach felt like it was about to throw out my breakfast.
"I will avenge your death." I growled. You did not die a pointless death. You died a woman, a strong beautiful woman. You were my mate, my soul mate and I will never forget you. You will forever haunt my mind and my heart.
I picked Kagome up. Tears still streaming down my face as I clenched my jaw. I stepped out into the sun. Shippo was in Sango's arms crying with Kirara. They all stood up.
"Ready?" Miroku said. I nodded my head and we walked out into the woods.
I stared down at her pale expressionless face.
