35. How Could I Be So Blind?

Luke's P.O.V
I saw Riley hit the ground as we all ran towards her. "Riley are you okay",said Michael. We all knelt down beside her. I grabbed her hand and squeezed it, yet she still didn't wake up. "Please wake up Riley this isn't funny",I shouted not knowing what to do. "She's out cold someone call 911",screamed Ashton. "Please don't go",I said shaking. Everything happened so quickly. Calum was on the phone pacing back and forth explaining what happened and telling the operator where we were. Soon enough an ambulance came and I put my arms under Riley who was still unconscious and picked her up and put her on the stretcher. They rolled her up the ramp into the car and asked us where and who were her relatives.

"No one here is related to her were just her close friends. Her mum is at home",replied a worried Ashton. "Ok um is anyone here her boyfriend, or someone that can ride in the ambulance with her",said the worker. Everyone looked at me waiting for my response. "Um I can go sir",I said shuffling toward the car. "Guys please tell Riley's mum to meet us at the hospital okay. I'll ride with Riley and you guys meet us there",I said before getting in seat at the front and shutting the door. The car immediately took off for the nearest hospital. They soon began bombarding me with questions about Riley.

"Do you know what happen",one of them asked me, as they were checking Riley who was still unconscious. "No she just fainted while we were hiking, saying that she couldn't keep going",I said not knowing how this entire thing even happened, though I was there. "Was she sick",they asked. "Well yesterday she told me she had a cough, but nothing else",I said still scared. "Well she doesn't seem to be sick but we still need to check her out and see what happened",said one of the workers.

We eventually made it to a nearby hospital and they burst open the back doors and immediately took Riley out and rushed her in. I ran alongside with them until the reached a room and said I couldn't come in. "Riley please wake up", I yelled as they pushed her through
the doors of the room and I could no longer see them. I paced around slowly while tugging on my hair. I was so scared and I didn't want anything to happen to Riley. "Luke",called out Calum as he ran towards me with Ashton, Michael, and Riley's mum."We saw you running towards here with Riley",said Michael out of breath. "How is she Luke",said Riley's mum with a worried expression painted on her face. "I didn't know she just collapsed and she hasn't waken up",I said frantically. "Why did I let her go,she should've stayed", said Riley's mum blaming herself, while tears streamed down her cheeks.

"What did you say", I asked Riley's mum. "I shouldn't have let her go with you guys", she said yelling a bit. Now everyone one, including Michael, Calum, and Ashton was listening. "Riley never wanted anyone to know",she said burying her face in her hands. "Riley's sick, her heart is not as strong as it should be. She asked me this morning if she can go and I said yes because she seemed so happy around you guys",she said crying. "I'm sorry for yelling I'm just so worried for her, I don't want to loose her",she said. I stared blankly into space reflecting upon my own stupidity.

How could I not tell, how could I be so blind? There were signs that I just kept ignoring. She was suddenly tired, breathing hard, the pills, how could I have missed it. Now it can be my fault if she doesn't wake up, or worse. I looked over to the guys and saw that they had sad expressions on the faces as well because of the new information just provided right now. "I'm sorry Ms. Johnson, I'm sorry for putting your daughter in danger",I said. "No no it's not your fault, it's not any of our fault. I just want her to be okay",she said still crying. We all sat down anxiously in the chairs provided while waiting on news about Riley.
