Zoella's POV

"You seriously just need to tell him already." I try to tell Ariel as she starts to edit a video we filmed because we were bored.

"Yeah, like he would like me back." She rolls her eyes. Gah, she needs to get it through her head that he is practically in love with her. I mean, it's totally obvious. Everyone knows.

"You need a reality check."

"Whatever. He only thinks of me as a friend."

I groan and lay down on my pillow. She is so stubborn, it's ridiclous. Not in a bad way, I mean I love her to death but sometimes she can drive me over the edge. Like right now. She gets her phone and turns on some music, of course playing her favorite song at the moment. Kick Me by Sleeping With Sirens. Ariel loves the song because she feels as though it sends a good message. About how people judge other people. I love the song also.

Let's hang the jury

you sick judgmental fools.

I'll bury you six feet deep

So tired of your rules.

Fuck you and your opinion

How could you be so blind?

What goes around comes back around in time.

"Let's talk about you and Alfie. How are things?" She changes the subject and wiggles her eyebrows suggestively.

"Things are great. They're going really well." I tell her honestly, thinking about Alfie. He's really sweet. I grab my cup full of ice and water and get an ice cube out. Ariel of course doesn't notice this because she is editing. I throw it at her and it lands right on her leg. Her eyes go wide as she looks down at her thigh. She shoves the laptop over her and falls off the bed in a rush. It seems as if she trips though and she drops a water bottle? Because I hear water splash. I get off the bed and see Ariel laying there. But it's not Ariel. It's a fish. A mermaid?!

"What the hell is going on?" I ask calmly, my anxiety rising up a bit.

"I...I can explain." She stutters and tries to sit up in a comfortable position. She ends up leaning on her elbows, her fish tail thing flopping every few seconds.

"Is this a joke or something? Oh wait, is this a prank? Is Joe pranking me? That was actually really good. It looks very real! How did you get into it so fast?" I ramble on, wishing it is a prank because there is no way it could be real. Mermaids don't exist. They are mythical creatures. Works of fiction. Made up.

"Zoe, I need you to stay calm, ok? I'm about to tell you something that you can't repeat to anyone else. It's my biggest secret." She says calmly.

"I've already figured it out! This is a prank, Ariel. I'm not stupid." I say, really trying to convince myself. I mean really, a mermaid whose name is Ariel. Never heard that one before. Note the sarcasm.

She sighs and sticks her hand out in front of her "tail". It looks like she is pulling on something with her hand and steam rises up from her tail. It seems as though she is doing that with her hand, like magical powers. Finally, the steam stops. I see water and the tail disappear. Her legs come back and she sighs in relief.

I can feel myself hyperventilating. I bet a lot of you are thinking, "How can she believe that? It's totally fake." I would definitely think that too if I was reading this...but I'm not. I'm living it and if you were in my position you would believe it too. My brother is not that good at pranks. And it just seems so real. It seems so real that there is no way it could be faked. I mean the tail just disappeared. How do you fake that?

She gets off the floor to come sit by me on her bed which I ended up on somehow during whatever just happened.

"Zoe, do you need a bag?" She asks me, putting her hand on my leg to help calm me down so I don't have a panic attack. I shake my head no and take deep breaths.

"Ok, I'm about to tell you something crazy. You have to trust me and believe me. And you have to swear to not tell anyone. Can you do that?" She pleads, her voice sounding desperate.

She is my bestfriend, about to tell me one of her best-kept secrets ever. She trusts me enough to tell her. Or maybe she feels like she has to because I just saw what happened. I hope she trusts me enough to tell me something this big.

"Of course I won't tell anyone! You know you can trust me. I've kept so many of your secrets. I promise." I say, trying to convince her to understand how much I respect her privacy to not tell anyone.

"Ok, it all started when my mother died. I was isolated. I didn't want to talk to anyone. But my friends kept bugging me to come out and party with them. So, I went. I being a huge idiot went with them. We went to that weird island off the coast of Brighton. (A/N I have no idea If there is one or not. Sorry) We found this little pool and I jumped in because I was totally wasted. The next day, I found out that every time I touch water I get a fin. And I have magical powers li-"

"No fucking way! You have powers!" I interrupt her, not believing what I'm hearing.

"Yes! Don't interrupt." She shushes me and continues on with her story. "I can freeze, heat, and move water. I was scared at first. I didn't know what to do with myself. I locked myself away again because I was afraid someone would accidentally drop water on me. After doing YouTube for a few years, I felt more relaxed, at ease with myself. Jim and Marcus are the only ones that know besides you." She looks at me, searching my face for an answer to what I say next.

"So, you're a for real mermaid? Like, can you talk to other animals?" Is my question. Wow, so observant.

Ariel laughs and shakes her head as an indication for the answer no.

"Can you show me how you use your powers?" I inquire, hoping that she will say yes. I mean, how cool is this?

"Of course." She smiles and fixes a glass of water. She sets it on the nightstand and walks over to me.

"First, I'm going to freeze it." She demonstrates how she uses her hand and freezes the glass of water.

I run up to it to feel it, to see if it actually froze. I trace my finger along the top, feeling the cold sensation from the ice.

As my finger is still touching it, I feel it become more liquidy. Soon enough, the water has been unfroze.

Then, little droplets of water come from the glass, rising up to the ceiling. Then all of a sudden, they fall down.

"Did you do all of that?" I ask amazed, still staring at the ceiling where the water just fell from.

"Yep," Ariel pops the p, "I guess there are some perks to being half fish." She smirks.

A/N

Wow, this is super long and super late. I'm very sorry but I had absolutely no idea what to do with this chapter. Zoe finding out was a last minute decision. I hope you liked it. :)
