Hands shaking
Palms sweating
Words quaking
Love's getting
To this boy standing outside of her house
It's just a girl he says to himself
He loves her but he doesn't know if she notices him
So he's here to ask her out on a date
It's a school dance tonight and he doesn't want to go with his friends
So he has flowers and an invitation just in case he stutters
Her mom opens the door and automatically smiles
She knows him for being the boy who stood up for her daughter
Giving her a jacket when she had a mistake during her period
He asked
"May I speak with her for a minute"
"Alone"
She agreed and called her down
Before he asked her he said
I remember the first time we met
I remember the first time we hung out
I love you and I will always take care of you
If you need a shoulder to cry on count on me
Will you please go to the dance as my girlfriend
And not my best friend
She agreed and went and got her dress on
After 10 minutes of nonsensical talking with her mother
He saw her emerge from her bedroom with a gorgeous maroon dress
He smiled and said that she wasn't just beautiful
But she is the best person that he has ever seen before
He took her hand and led her to the door of his car
She waved goodbye to her mom as he closed the door and mouthed thank you
He got inside of the car and they drove to the dance
They danced all night never leaving each other's presence
She said thank you as he carried her up to her doorstep
He said no problem
But he knew that that was his last night with anyone he loved
He stole a kiss
And he said goodbye
Mouthed goodbye forever
She got the news the next day
As she attended his funeral
She laid the very rose he gave her
