Old Chevrolet

A man

Called his wife after work

But he heard a man's voice

So he hung up the phone and rushed home

He slammed the door once he got inside

Took one look at his wife cheating on him

She begged and pleaded that it wasn't what he thought

I should have known when you needed to stay later

You just needed someone there to mash your taters

He grabbed his car keys and told her that he will be on his way

She begged for him to stay and give her a second chance

But he left and went back to Texas to start over

The only thing that was left from his was a letter that read

I have nothing left to say

I'll always miss the way you called me babe

But you know the style of my old Chevrolet

But now that I can no longer call you my miss

That'll be the last thing for me to miss

Goodbye

I hope that time will fly

He went back home and visited his parents

Got a job and got his own portrait

But all he could is tolerate it

She took every part of him and shattered it into pieces

He apologized to himself for many months until he gave up

Broke his favorite coffee mug that was made by her

He was ready to move on but he didn't know how

So he started where it was always going to be about them

Never just going to be about friends or her

That was what brought him back to the fine line

As he sat there and he always wondered why

Is it his fault that she didn't want him and would lie

He got a letter in the mail from her that read

I didn't mean to hurt you the way that I did

I miss you and I want you to come back to me

We can carve our names into the same old tree

Just come back to me Oliver

He got his hatchet and he went to his backyard

Cut down every tree and smiled about what he felt

He went back inside and crumpled up the piece of paper

Left the house to go move on and now he knows how

As long as she will always have something to say

She'll love him for having his old red Chevrolet

So he called her and they have been together for years

Laying in the eternity together for eternity
