Chapter 8: the Chamber of Secrets

Hogwarts No POV

It was getting close to night a few days after the Spider Nest event. Merula and her gang were working tirelessly to uncover the mystery but they were having some struggles. Wade had been trying to help but he has been more distant and he has covered his arms as much as possible.

Right now, Ron and Harry were visiting the petrified Hermione like how Penny and Tonks were visiting the petrified Ben. Harry changed the flowers that were next to Hermione's bed.

Harry: wish you were here, Hermione. We need you. Now more than ever.

Harry caressed Hermione's petrified hand before he felt a piece of paper on it and took it.

Ron: what's that?

Harry:<uncrumbles it> Ron, this is why Hermione was in the library the day she was attacked. Come on!

Harry and Ron ran out as Penny and Tonks sneaked after them.

Harry: "of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years, instant death awaits any who meet this giant serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it..." Ron, this is it. The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk. That's why I can hear it speak. It's a snake.

Ron: but if it kills by looking people in the eye, why is it no one's dead?

Harry:<looks at his reflection in the mirror> because no one did look it in the eye. Not directly, at least. Colin saw it through his camera. Ben... Ben must have seen the basilisk through Nearly Headless Nick. Nick got the full blast of it, but he's a ghost. He couldn't die again. And Hermione... had the mirror. I bet you anything she was using it to look around corners in case it came along.

Ron; and Mrs Norris? I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror, Harry.

Merula; there was water that day.

Merula and her group walked over and heard part of the conversation.

Ron: what are you lot doing here?

Barnaby; looking for Wade.

Ismelda: no one has seen him the entire day.

Harry: Wade's missing?

Merula: we have been looking everywhere.

Tonks; Wade's missing?

Tonks and Penny came out of hiding.

Ismelda: why are you two here?

Penny: we heard them leave and we got suspicious.

Tonks: now you're telling us that Wade is missing? We weren't gonna stay away from this.

Harry: well we know what the monster is, it's a Basilisk. "Spiders flee before it." It all fits. How the victims are getting petrified, how I can hear it, and why spiders are afraid of it.

Penny: but how's the basilisk been getting around?

Ron; a dirty, great snake, someone would have seen it.

Merula: and not die by it or getting petrified.

Harry: Hermione's answered that too.

Ron: pipes?

Ismelda: it's using the plumbing. No wonder it's always wet when there's an attack.

Harry: remember what Aragog said about that girl 50 years ago?

Tonks: who's Aragog?

Barnaby: a giant spider deep in the dark forest.

Merula: she died in a bathroom?
