Ash's P.O.V.

I wake to a scream ripping through the dropship. I sit up quickly and look around, taking in my surroundings. Another scream comes from the floor above me. I carefully get out of my hammock and make my way to the second floor. I find Clarke, Finn, and Monty surrounding another kid. I make my way over but stop once I see the wound in the kid's chest. Finn looks up and sees me, quickly standing and walking over.

"Hey, you don't need to be here," he softly whispers.

"I can help," I say quietly. I look around Finn to see Clarke look up at me.

"Let her help Finn. She knows just about as much as me in medicine," she says. Finn lets me take his spot next to the kid.

"This is Jasper. He took a spear to the chest and when we found him, this was where the wound was."

"A poultice," I whisper. I touch it.

"It looks like the Grounders cauterized the wound. Saved his life," Clarke says.

"Saved his life so they could string him up for live bair. Garden of Eden this ain't," Fin says.

"This is probably infected. He could be septic. Monty, any progress on using the wristband to contact the Ark?" I ask. I am finding a confidence that I did not know I possessed. This is the most I've talked in the last 7 years alone.

"That would be a firm no," he responds.

"My mother would know what to do," Clarke mutters. Wells joins us and starts talking but I don't hear it as I run any possible scenerio in my head.

"Hey, I'm just trying to help," Wells says.

"Right. You want to help?" I look at Clarke, hoping she is thinking similarily to me.

"Hold him down," I say. I grab a knife from next to Clarke and quickly make my way out of the dropship to the fire. I hear Bellamy call my name but I ignore him as I run back inside with a hot knife. Once back with Jasper, I carefully begin cutting the infected part of the wound out. Jasper is screaming bloody murder but I don't stop. Once it is all out, I grab the cloth that was in the water nearby and put pressure on the wound.

"Stop it! You're killing him," Octavia screams as she climbs the ladder. Finn holds her back from getting too close.

"She's trying to save his life," he tries to explain. Bellamy enters and says,

"She can't," thinking it was Clarke doing it. He stops when he sees me.

"Back off," Wells says.

"We didn't drag him through miles of woods just to let him die," Clarke exclaims.

"Kid's a goner. If you can't see that you're deluded. He is making people crazy."

"Sorry if Jasper is an inconvenience to you, but this isn't the Ark. Down here, every life matters." Clarke and Bellamy keep arguing and I try to focus on the task at hand. Soon, it gets quiet and Clarke rejoins me as I keep pressure on the wound.

"Let me take over for a bit," she offers. I let her take over and sit back against the wall.

"How did you think of that?" Clarke asks. I just shrug my shoulders, not really feeling like speaking. We sit in silence until we decide to wrap the wound.

"Keep some cloth in the wound and then secure it around his chest," Clarke says. Finn is helping us hold Jasper up to get the wrap around his chest. Once we lay him back down, Wells comes back up.

"Can I see the poultice?" Wells asks. I pick it up and hand it to him.

"I know what it is. Seaweed. Look... no root structure," Wells says after a minute.

"Right. Well, then there must be a water source nearby," Clarke says.

"Yeah, it would have to have a slow current, lots of rocks. The water would probably be more red than green."

"I know just the place."

"All right. Let's go." Clarke turns to leave but Wells stops her. Clarke looks at me.

"Do you want to come?" she asks. I shake my head.

"Someone needs to stay here and watch him," I say. Clarke smiles at me and nods. They all leave me alone in the silence. It was the first time I had been in almost complete silence (the dropship doesn't stop all sounds from outside) since we had been sent down to Earth. I rest my head on the wall behind me, drifting off into a light sleep.
