I step out of the now quiet school, blasted by a gust of early Spring air. Bitter cold as if I was teleported to a mountain top of the Himalayas. The bitterness felt as if a thousand knives went through my hoodie and into my bare skin.
"Corbin!" A familiar voice interrupts through the gusts.
I turned around to see Maddi, I totally forgot to meet her today for lunch. I got so caught up with Joey that I've forgotten my whole schedule.
"Hi Maddi, listen I'm sorry about missing lunch today I meet someon-" I say with a sense of urgency.
"Did you meet a girl!" She replies with a big smile and excitement.
I nod my head yes and smile, just the thought of Joey made me smile as if I won a free cruise trip to the Bahamas.
She squeals in excitement " I've been waiting for this day since 4th grade Corbin!"
I roll my eyes, my smile fades into a smirk. "What now?"
"Well you have to tell me about her dingus!" She replies, her facial expression stuck into her smile position.
"Well, she uh-h has brown and blonde hair. She has these gorgeous brown eyes and glasses." I reply, trying not to blush at the fact that her face is embedded into my mind as if it was a painting from Vincent Van Gogh.
"Her name is Joey, I met her from her friend from class and we're gonna go check out the town tonight." I finish with a little smile towards her.
"I don't believe she knows how excited I am about tonight" I thought to myself, as a shiver of fear went through my chest and down to my feet.
She squeals in excitement as her hands go from her sides to in front of her face and shake like an excited kid at the toy store. " We got to prepare you for everything! You're gonna do great it's wha-" She stops as she starts crying.
"Maddi, why are you crying?" I replied concerned over her mood change.
" I'm just so happy for you," she replies with a smile, her hands come together as she claps, wiping off her tears and smiles at me.
I was excited too, this was something I couldn't study in a textbook. I was always curious about relationships and dating.
"Stop crying and help me study for this date." I look at her with a smile.
We walk over to the school parking lot, empty compared to when the whole school was here just a miter ten minutes ago. The parking lot wraps around the school like a ring. Beer bottles and bags of chips spread across the parking lot, " They can't walk ten feet to the trash can." Always lingers in my head.
We walk over to her car that her dad dropped off, a baby blue pickup truck with a live love laugh sticker on the back window. It was surprisingly quiet compared to the other pickup trucks in the city. She loved that truck like it was her baby.
"Aren't you gonna open the door for me?" Maddi says in a stern voice.
"You've never wanted me before, what chan-" I say confused before getting cut off.
"If you're gonna go on a date with a girl, you better learn what to do." She replies, giving me a discomforting face.
I rush over and open the door for her and await for her to step into the small pickup truck.
"Much better, get used to doing this." She looks at me with a smirk.
I shut the door but making sure that the door won't slam into her. I look out into the empty parking lot. An eerie feeling rolls over me as a small gust of wind blows a tumbleweed across the parking lot, not a sound besides the truck. I get a nervous feeling in my stomach, "How am I gonna tell Dad," races through my mind.
