The song "Without you" By Breaking Benjamin is playing on my speaker as Joey scrolls through her phone and I read over the book of "The philosophy of love." She looks so amazing even just sitting there doing nothing. It feels as if there was a dark cloud in my life and she just came in and shined bright enough to make that dark cloud bearable.
"What are you reading?" She asks, now facing towards me from the bed.
My mind races, the attention she gives is intoxicating. As if I was the only person left and she got stuck with me.
"I'm reading a book about love. I'm trying to understand what it means." I replied.
She giggles and smiles at me. "Why?"
My head starts going back to Mia and when she broke my heart. I see Mia crying in my car telling me how sorry she is. This was the day I found out I got replaced. I can see it in my eyes that I wanted to leave, disappear, fly away to a different planet.
"Corbin it's just you haven't been there enough. He treats me well and I'm sorry I can't do this anymore. You need to grow up and treat girls better. They don't always want to go on dates and study and shit." Mia yells.
I just watch as I can't respond. I just sit there, and a tear falls from my eye onto my cheek. I think back to all the times I was there when she was venting, crying, angry at me and happy. All of the runs to the coffee shop and looking at the stars. It meant nothing to her but everything to me.
I come back to reality and see Joey still looking at me. "Because believe it or not I've been hurt before. I just never wanted to study it because no one gave me a reason to."
She looks concerned. "Want to talk about it?"
"She replaced me, and everything I did meant nothing to her," I say.
"Did she tell you why?" Joey responds.
"She told me I didn't do enough, she told me stuff I never knew because she wouldn't tell me." I respond, biting my lip trying not to cry or get mad.
"Well I don't know how it all happened but I'm sorry that she did that to you." Joey responds as she gets up to give me a hug.
My mind races, "It's gonna happen again with Joey don't get too excited" I thought to myself.
I get up and grab my clothes for the day. My old hockey jersey and some dark blue jeans with my cross chain. As I'm setting my clothes down on the bed I look up to see Joey biting her lip and giving me a smirk. "It never hurts to change."
// This is a little more background juicer stuff is coming.
